GGUSD Celebrates Thanksgiving
Across the district, GGUSD schools hosted special events to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. Gilbert Elementary School students (photographed here) enjoyed the school's annual Mayflower performance and feast. We are thankful for our wonderful students and staff members.
Superintendent Spotlight
Superintendent Gabriela Mafi presented to sixth graders at Lawrence Elementary School recently, inviting them to join the district's College and Career Mentoring Program. Students enjoyed learning about the superintendent's life experiences, as well as lessons in grit, scholarly habits, and motivation. Dr. Mafi launched the mentoring program in 2014-15 at three elementary schools and today, it is offered at 23 elementary schools. GGUSD grads and college students return to help students with their academic work, serve as positive role models, and provide students with tips about how to begin thinking about and preparing for college.
November Employees of the Month
Our November Employees of the Month are Lucy Cali, a wonderful GGUSD bus driver for 37 years, and Ji Young Kim, an amazing teacher in her 21st year at Sunnyside Elementary School. We are THANKFUL for awesome employees like these.
La Quinta Aztecs Make History
Congratulations to the La Quinta Aztec Varsity football team for an amazing season! Coach Andy Diaz led the team to a 9-1 regular season record, their best record since 1990, and they advanced to the semi-finals of the CIF-SS playoffs for the first time since 1989. They embody what is #LQPossible. Thanks to all of the many fans who came out to support these scholars/athletes, including Board of Education Trustee Walter Muneton (pictured below).
POLICE PARTNERSHIP
At Parkview Elementary School, 15 students who achieved the goals they set for themselves, were rewarded with a full Thanksgiving Dinner for their family through a partnership with area law enforcement.
