#ThinkLocalFirst Campaign
The Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce is encouraging people to “Think Local First” by shopping at Home for the Holidays. Supporting independently owned businesses helps all of us in our community not just at the holidays but all year round.

As part of our month long celebration we are bringing back a contest where shoppers can win a prize! $100 Cash provided by Main Street Bucksport, an additional $50 cash provided by Head of the Bay Business Alliance, a BookStacks “Still Mill” prize package, and Bangor Daily News has added a free year subscription to Bangor Metro Magazine.

We need your help to encourage customers to shop local and show them how they can win! Anytime someone shops with a small business in any of the communities the Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce represents for goods or services and “Thinks Local First” they can present their receipt to the Chamber and fill out a ballot to enter to win. Another way shoppers can qualify is if they take a selfie while shopping, “check-in” to the business and submit it to the Chamber's Facebook page using the hashtag #thinklocalfirst. The final way customers can enter is to sign the pledge to shop at home for the holidays, pledge boards are located at local businesses.

Watch for the shoppers' post on the Chamber’s Facebook page and thanks for helping your communities thrive! Entries will be accepted from Small Business Saturday through January 1, 2018!

This option has worked well for many families in previous years. It avoids the line/crowd and rushed atmosphere of the mall. It also gives the more timid kids a chance to warm up to Santa before pictures are taken. Once the photos are done, you can visit with Santa while Dan prepares your images and burns them to a disk. Total Price is $75 that includes a 1-hour appointment, sitting fee, the disk with the images and release form that allows you to print the pictures at your discretion.

Buck Memorial Library News
You might notice this green light at the Buck Memorial Library. They have added it in support of the Greenlight a Vet campaign.
America’s veterans are some of our nation’s bravest, hardest-working men and women. However, it’s hard to show them the appreciation they deserve when, back home and out of uniform, they’re more camouflaged than ever. Greenlight A Vet is a campaign to establish visible national support for our veterans by changing one light to green.
The Buck Memorial library invites all to share in "the joy of the holidays" with a gift of new books for children of all ages and jars (no glass) of peanut butter, jelly, and cinnamon and sugar (cinnamon toast).
Please bring all gifts to the Buck Memorial Library by 11am on Wednesday, December 13. Bucksport Community Concerns will deliver to area families. Books purchased at Bookstacks for this cause are 10% off.
Buck Memorial Library Story Time
Welcomes all ages to the traditional reading of Santa Mouse Wednesday, December 20th 10:30-11am.
A Message from BRHC's CEO Carol Carew
It is unbelievable that the holidays are upon us. And with them, come an abundance of varied foods that show up at every turn. Are they always safe to eat? Remember an important rule for food safety: keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold. For safety tips, read Preventing Foodborne Illness.
National Handwashing Awareness Week is December 4-10. Keeping your hands clean is one of the best ways to prevent illness and the spreading of germs to others. Visit
www.cdc.gov for more information. We’re excited to have new, free classes starting in January: tobacco cessation, and the National Diabetes Prevention Program, which includes developing lifestyle habits to reach a healthy weight and incorporating adequate physical activity into your life. Call Bucksport Regional Health Center, ext. 260, to reach Jessica Richards, our health educator, for more information. From all of us at BRHC, have the happiest of holidays
