Savannah, GA, November 27, 2017 - The budget for the Live Oak Public Libraries system has been very tight during the past fiscal year. Library staff members were requested by their funders in Chatham, Effingham and Liberty counties to review regional costs of operation. As a result of the review, five positions in three departments of the Library System have been impacted by a Reduction in Force (RIF).
The positions eliminated were: two staff members of Library Services Support department, two staff members of the Development and Communications department (a third staff member was reassigned to another department), and one staff member from the Information Technology department.
The employees were notified this morning and the employees will be offered a separation package.
While the RIF action is unfortunate, the Library System will be able to reallocate funds to better benefit the community. The funds will support the delivery of quality library services, including ongoing Library programming, the purchase of essential library supplies, employee training, and building maintenance and repair. The support of these areas will allow the Library system to continue to grow and support all citizens of the community.
