KGOU Now Broadcasting to Western Oklahoma

Public radio listeners in western Oklahoma are now hearing KGOU on 89.1 FM from a transmitter located in Clinton. On Dec. 1 KGOU and the University of Oklahoma assumed operation of the signal, formerly licensed to Cameron University as part of its public radio service, KCCU. KCCU and KGOU have been working together for more than a year to make the license transfer happen.

This week we've performed some maintenance on the transmitter and other equipment, and 89.1 is now operating at its assigned 40 kilowatt strength. It reaches a large area, from the Wichita Mountains to Woodward, and from near El Reno to the western state line and beyond. We are excited about this new opportunity and welcome listeners in that part of the state to the KGOU community!

KGOU Volunteers Help With First 'Thank-a-thon'

KGOU hosted a group of volunteers last weekend to hold our first-ever 'thank-a-thon,' placing calls to donors for the sole purpose of thanking them for their support this year. We had a great time and heard some great comments and suggestions.

We didn't make it all the way through our donor list, however, so if you didn't receive a call, know that we do thank you for your support, and maybe we'll catch you some other time. All Things Considered Looks Back on Robert Siegel's Career

Robert Siegel, Linda Wertheimer and Noah Adams hosted ATC in the 1990s.
As previously announced, Robert Siegel will be stepping away from the host's chair for All Things Considered early next year, after 30 years on the show and four decades at NPR.

On Monday, Dec. 18 co-host Audie Cornish will talk with Robert about a recurring theme in his interviews and reporting over the years: his interest in how people talk. Robert will discuss stories he did on intonation, New York accents, and also about how his own voice and speech have changed over the years.

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, Robert talked with co-host Ari Shapiro about his signature reporting on the criminal justice system. If you missed that, it's available in the archives:

Vehicle donations have brought in more than $30,000 in 2017 to help pay for programs you hear every day -- a significant contribution to KGOU's annual budget! Banjo virtuoso Béla Fleck teams up with string quartet Brooklyn Rider for an evening of blending the genres of American roots and classical music. They perform at Armstrong Auditorium in Edmond on Tuesday, Jan. 16, and we're giving away pairs of tickets in a drawing next week.
