Remembering our Heroes Everyday
Throughout the year we have certain days set aside for us to pause, reflect and give thanks for all that we have, for the opportunities that we've been given, and most of all to give thanks to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
As we reflect upon the anniversary of the 76th National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day today, let us remember the stories of the brave U.S. military citizens who rose to their duty to serve our country.
My grandfather Nemesio Marcos, a WWII Veteran, served on USCG Taney.

This morning, I showed my daughter Allie an old photo of my grandfather and shared his story.  In 1941, my grandfather Nemesio Marcos was one of the thousands of U.S. military men who defended America during the attack on Pearl Harbor.  As an immigrant of Ilocos Norte, Philippines, my grandfather bravely served on USCG Taney, notable as the last ship floating in Pearl Harbor after the attack.  He later on went to fight in World War II and eventually retired as assistant to the Admiral of the U.S. Coast Guard.

My grandfather's experience is only one of the thousands of stories that are waiting to be shared.  I hope that today and every day, you will take a moment to acknowledge those who have sacrificed so much to allow us to enjoy our cherished freedom.
