This is the last Sunday we will be open this year! In December, Open Day Last Sunday takes a holiday so come and stroll amidst the ever-changing landscape, enjoy chamber music by members of the Los Angeles Children's Orchestra, and browse through our eclectic holiday sale.

Special offerings will be ceramics by Mariko Bird and paintings by Nori Shirasu.

Tai-Ling Wong will once again be selling the beautiful, Asian-inspired clothing from Citron as well as jewelry and gift items from around the world.

The garden will also open a gift shop for the day. For sale will be vintage kimonos and Japanese lacquer wares generously donated by Ayako Isobe Travis. There will also be prints, paintings, rare books, and small gifts such as fans, umbrellas and garden notecards.

Finally, see the exhibition, Floralia, in the En Gallery, featuring paintings and prints of flowers from the United States, France and China. The exhibit is a celebration of the creativity inspired by the world of flowers.

A lecture by
   Dr. Bradford King, President
Southern California Camellia Society
   December 8, 7pm

There are many passionate camellia lovers out there and Dr. Bradford King shares their love and speaks their language. With a slideshow of the various types of camellias grown in Southern California, Dr. King will explore the histories and characteristics of these beautiful Asian flowers. Interestingly, he pairs each one with an image of its namesake, such as  "Cherries Jubilee" and the famous dessert. The lecture is free with admission to the garden. Floralia
The first exhibition featured at the new EN GALLERY of art at the Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden, is named for the ancient Roman festival held in honor of Flora, the Goddess of Flowers. The exhibition , Floralia, features modern Western paintings of flowers, including still life works by Marcel Dyf and Jacques Danglas, and several antique Audubon prints. Also featured, will be a selection of small but stunning, antique Chinese watercolor paintings.

En Gallery at the Garden
In Japanese, the word "en" (園) can mean garden. Written with another character (縁), "en" signifies the special and often mysterious bond that connects people. It also refers to the verandah - a space between inside and outside. Located in the Meeting Room of the house looking out on the garden, the gallery will feature exhibitions of art relating to nature, spirituality, wellness and relationships.

This exhibition runs through December 7 and may be viewed during the garden's open hours or by appointment. The works in the exhibition and future exhibitions are for sale, with part of the proceeds benefiting the garden's educational and cultural programming.

Holiday closures...

The garden will be closed the week of Thanksgiving until November 26th when Open Day Last Sunday will be held as usual.

The last Open Thursday of this year will be on December 14th. There will be no events or Open Days from December 15th until Open Thursday on January 4th. The first Plein Air Watercolor Class of the Winter Series will be held on Friday, January 5th.
