This fall our women’s bible study was great. We studied I & II Kings through the book, “Set Apart” by Rev. Jessica LaGrone. Not very many people would wish to sit down and study Kings on their own, yet when those who participated in the class dug deeper into the scriptures, great revelations and illuminations took place. Here are a few comments of the class:
From Karen Ward:
“I have enjoyed very much Jessica LaGrone’s “Set Apart” bible study. First, it has kept me in the scriptures and interestingly enough in the Old Testament. Secondly, it has allowed me to study with a group of women on a weekly basis. Third, it has inspired me to listen to God through the scriptures, through the Holy Spirit and through other Christians. Jessica LaGrone shared in the study book and videos concrete ways to enhance one’s relationship with God. I appreciate the opportunities our church offers for Bible study."
From Mary Price:
"I thoroughly enjoyed this Jessica LaGrone study. I was once again reminded that when I follow God’s wisdom and surrender to him, my life is so much better. I am going to work on giving up control of situations and seek God’s counsel in everything."
From Renee Crump:
"This fall I participated in the “Set Apart” Bible Study. The study used I & Ii Kings to examine six holy habits of Old Testament prophets and Kings who were set apart by their close walk with God. It was interesting to discover how these stories from the Old Testament could be so relevant in today’s world. In my time at First United Methodist Church I have taken many different Bible Studies and everyone of them have been beneficial in my faith journey. I would highly recommend finding one that could work in your schedule, not only for your own growth , but also for the good of others as they come to see God in and through us."
Save the Date!
Our Spring Women’s Bible study will be

Advent Worship Schedule
Our Advent worship schedule is different than our normal worship times for one specific reason- to help us be A Beacon of Hope For All. We have intentionally scheduled our worship to help people who are not used to the way we "have always done it" be able to easily join us in worship this Advent and Christmas season.
Sundays in Advent
During the other Sundays in Advent we will have our four worship services at slightly new times. We will have a Faith Matters (contemporary) and Sanctuary service (traditional) at
8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.
Putting these two different services at the same times will make it easy for all of us to invite people to worship! Just tell them to be at the church at 8:30 or 10:45 to find an excellent worship service that feels like home to them!
Blue Christmas Service
On
Sunday, December 17 at 5:30 p.m. in the Nicholson Chapel we will have a special Blue Christmas service. For many of us the holiday season can be difficult as we grieve the loss of those who have passed away or struggle with illness. This is a service of hope and healing to acknowledge our grief and the reality of our struggles but to also turn with joy and hopeful expectation to the Messiah.
Christmas Eve Services
On Christmas Eve morning, which is also the fourth Sunday of Advent, we will have one combined, traditional worship service at
10 a.m. in the Sanctuary
(no Sunday school). That evening we will have multiple opportunities,in different worship venues, for you and your loved ones to come and celebrate Christmas!
4 p.m. Children's Service
(Sanctuary)
5-6 p.m. Come and Go Communion
(Chapel)
7 p.m. Candlelight Service
(Sanctuary)
Childcare Provided l No Communion
11 p.m. Candlelight Service
(Chapel)
Communion l No Childcare Provided

This past Sunday, December 3, was our Hanging of the Greens in which our high school seniors and juniors help set the sanctuary for the Advent Season. It was a beautiful service as we enjoyed song, scripture, and preparing our hearts and our worship spaces for a meaningful Advent! Thank you to everyone who helped make such a special Sunday possible!

In 2018 we 're starting something new!
The Beacon Sunday school class will officially start January 7th and will meet in the Heritage Room. The class is designed for couples and singles who desire to grow in their faith and reconnect with a small group. The name Beacon was chosen because it fits with our vision of growing, serving, and leading. The light in a beacon will only grow if it is tended, just as the light of Christ within us will only grow brighter if we grow in our faith. As that light grows, it has a purpose and that is to serve, just as we are called to serve as part of our faith. A beacon also leads and points the way with the light, just as we are called to lead and point others to the light of Christ. We're excited to start this new opportunity to grow, make new friends, serve, laugh, and cry together, and we look forward to where the light of Christ will lead. For more information contact Hollie Gannon 903-746-7646, Angie Guest 903-738-1794, or Romnie Scott 903-235-4009.
