UK SoA Humanitarian Architecture - Empowering Haitian Orphans
In the spring of 2017 a group of UK College of Design architecture students began designing a renovation/expansion project for the Chez Moi orphanage, located in Port Au Prince, Haiti. The funds raised through crowdfunding will be directly used to help cover the cost of travel and expenses for students to travel to Haiti, in order to further the Chez Moi project. While on site, students will meet with Haitian consultants and contractors to progress the construction of our designs for the orphanage. As well, we will be publishing a book in order to advance our marketing capabilities and to share the story of the residents of Chez Moi.
Please show your support for Humanitarian Architecture: Empowering Haitian Orphans Through A New Home by making a gift to the Humanitarian Haiti Fund today!
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat ReStore is working to establish a second location in Lexington at 817 Winchester Road and is looking for volunteer help with professional services. They plan to modify an existing office/warehouse space to suit their needs. Some of the items they need professional help with include:
- Measured drawings of their existing space for future use
- Advice on a demolition plan appropriate to the existing space
- Advice in regards to life safety and building code requirements
- Advice on the feasibility of adding a drop-off canopy in the future
- Advice on lighting revisions in the existing space's support areas
- Advice on floor finish options
If you are interested in volunteering your time to help Habitat ReStore, please contact Jim Kreiner, ReStore Director at 859-412-1933 or

Lexington Emerging Professionals Network
The Lexington Emerging Professionals Network (LEPN) was started in October of 2016, to provide architectural emerging professionals in the Lexington area an opportunity to network and participate in fellowship with their peers. The LEPN will hold monthly meet-ups at local restaurants, where all area emerging professionals will be welcomed regardless of AIA membership. The goal of the LEPN is to engage all emerging professionals in the larger Lexington architectural community.
The next event will be on 11/21 at 6:30pm at Willy's Locally Known.
If you are an emerging professional in the Lexington area, please follow them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/lexepnetwork, and stay up-to-date on future events.
