The Elizabeth Pubic Library is accepting donations.
Please help us support our community!
|
Help check out hunger this holiday season with donations to a Food Drive being sponsored by the Libraries of Union County Consortium (LUCC).
November 27 - December 18, Elizabeth Public Library will be accepting donations of non-perishable food items to benefit our local food pantries. Collection bins will be located at all four EPL locations:
100% of the donations will go to local food banks.
Even though experts say our economy is in recovery, many people in New Jersey have been left behind; low income families; struggling single parents; the elderly on a fixed income; the unemployed. Your donations will help to fill shopping carts and bellies.
To make this holiday season hunger free, simply visit any EPL location with a donation of non-perishable items. Groceries most urgently needed are canned meat and fish; canned soups and stews; peanut butter (in plastic jars); boxed pasta and rice; powdered milk; infant formula; canned vegetables and fruits.
For more information, contact Elizabeth Public Library at 908-354-6060, or visit the Union County Public Libraries web site at www.luccnj.org.
We are also collecting toys for Children's Specialized Hospital, and support the YWCA's Project North Pole.
Help us make the season merry & bright!

Lifelong Elizabeth is a city-wide initiative with the mission to ensure that Elizabeth is a friendly place to grow up and to grow old.
|
From survey feedback and focus groups, we have identified four major areas of concentration that are important to seniors: communication & information, transportation, neighborhood safety & outdoor spaces, and safety within the home.
We've enjoyed a long bull market. But when it starts losing steam, you, as an investor, need to be prepared.
Here are 2 projects we have put together to help our Seniors get around the City of Elizabeth:

"Restore is a safe-haven" says Ximena Carrasco, Restore's Program Director. "However, we are providing more than safety from the streets. We have a proven method for our members to learn the skills needed to be successful in school and in life. Many of our parents cannot pay for after school care. Without us, our kids would have nowhere to go."

Yasmin Fisher, GECC Business Development Director, Giovanni Antonucci,
Manager - Client Services & Support, APM Terminals, Port Elizabeth
and Eileen Thompson, APM Terminals HR Business Partner pack bags on
Port Packing Day 2017 on November 2nd an the annual event organized by the Seamen's Church Institute at Port Newark Center.
The Seamen's Church Institute invites the port community to help package gifts that they bring to the seafarers aboard the ships that call the Port of New York and New Jersey between November 15th and January 15th. It's their way of bringing joy to the seafarers, sharing the spirit of the holidays and ensuring that they are not forgotten even though they are away from home.
Some of the contents of the bags were collected throughout the community and included knitted items, toiletries, candy donations and hand written cards from students of local schools.
It always a "fun and very rewarding experience", said Giovanni who also collects and picks up supplies. All who participated were treated to a delicious lunch which was also "a great experience", according to Yasmin Fisher.
