Depression: There is a Cure for the Summertime Blues!
The Mind-Body Connection

All of us struggle with multiple daily demands- as parents, partners, students, employees and friends.  These demands present challenges but if managed well, can enhance our physical and mental well-being. Who doesn't feel jazzed when conquering a difficult task?

However, depression, when overwhelmed by life's stressors, can be paralyzing.  In addition, it can contribute to painful physical conditions, like head, back, stomach and joint aches, and has been linked to cancer, stroke, heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.

Estimates are that 20% of the population will struggle with depression at some point in their lives- that is one in five of us!  Finding the right tools to overcome feelings of hopelessness is critical; however, those tools differ for each of us.

Depression is not a choice; how you deal with it is. Seek help rather than face it alone. With each success comes increased confidence in your ability to manage the next challenge.
Are You Aware That:
  • According to the Center for Disease Control, depression is the leading cause of disability for Americans ages 15-44.
  • Regular physical exercise can improve the mood of people struggling with mild to moderate depression.
  • Improved posture, when sitting and walking, can reduce depression.
  • Between 80-90% of those receiving treatment for depression experience a significant decrease in their symptoms yet only 20% of those with depression seek treatment.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has been proven to be effective in treating depression and other mental health disorders.
Take Action and Get Positive Results
The start of summer is a great time to take stock and make choices to maximize your health.  Take a walk with a friend; join a gym; meditate; take a class; find a therapist. Challenge your negative thoughts one action at a time. Face your issues and build upon your core strength- it is the best way to successfully deal with life's challenges.
