s growth. Gene earned his B.E.C.E. degree from City College of New York and both his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, concentrated in Geotechnical Engineering, from Purdue University. He has over 25 years experience at specialty firms, Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers and GEI Consultants, and at full-service firms
'
geotechnical departments such as at Arcadis U.S., Inc. and Hardesty and Hanover, LLP.
Gene
has provided project services in geotechnical engineering and earthquake engineering for dams, nuclear stations, and transportation. These services include geotechnical seismic investigation and design for the Central Artery Tunnel Project and geotechnical and seismic design to replace Pilgrim Nuclear Station
'
s Salt Service Water cooling pipes. In addition, his services include preparing and coordinating conceptual underpinning design for the Second Avenue Subway Project
'
s 125th Street Station and leading the design of the deep foundations, excavation support, and cofferdam layouts for the Willis Avenue Bridge Replacement Project.
Other projects include stabilization of slopes and rock cuts and investigating, designing, and inspecting for shallow and deep foundations and excavation support for low, mid, and high-rise buildings. He served as Subject Matter Expert for evaluating then-recent flood events
impact on the foundation support and the predicted seismic response and resulting safety of Fort Calhoun Nuclear Station, particularly the power block. He provided forensic inspections of foundation and retaining walls in the New York City region that sustained damage during Hurricane Irene and Superstorm Sandy.
Gene has taught soil mechanics, foundation engineering, soil dynamics, earthquake engineering, engineering geology, engineering statistics, and reliability at Northeastern University. He currently teaches geotechnical engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology. He has published in the ASCE Geotechnical Journal and in refereed proceedings.
