Grace: It's Our Way of Life
|
|
As Episcopal Christians we
Worship at home daily and together weekly;
Study the scriptures, our tradition, and what it means to be a disciple today;
Serve our families, our parish, and our world in the name of Christ. Everything we do is done with an ethic of
Welcome because we are only here by Grace.
Where have you welcomed, worshiped, studied or served?

New homeless shelter now open:
Grace will host Safe Harbor on Wellington St. Dec. 2 - Dec. 9
The building has changed, but the mission remains the same. Every year from November through April Safe Harbor offers shelter-a warm, safe place to sleep and a hot meal- to the homeless during the coldest months of the year.
Staffed by a coalition of more than twenty local churches, Safe Harbor is a volunteer organization that relies entirely on donations of food, time, and talent to keep it running. Churches sign up as hosts for a week and provide a hot dinner, a simple breakfast, and resources to supervise the guests. In the past, this involved taking turns sheltering the homeless in their own click here to continue reading...

Conserving paper resources
You'll notice this weekend that the Grace Life insert is not included in your service bulletin. Please pick up your copy from the table in the Commons. We are also printing fewer service bulletins, and ask that if you attend services with others that you share a bulletin, instead of each individual receiving one. Thank you!
From the Vestry:
help us keep coffee hour peanut-free
In order to provide the best possible welcome to those among us with peanut allergies, we are beginning to work to make our food offerings at Grace peanut-free. If you are planning to bring food, especially for coffee hour, please choose anything that does not have peanuts in it in any form. Thank you in advance for helping us with this!
Help Charles Miller Celebrate his 65th birthday!

A Grateful Harvest
There is still time to submit your pledge
During this "season of plenty", when local farms are reaping their bounty, we ask you to consider the many gifts for which you're thankful. The gifts that you may commit to sharing in support of Grace and our ongoing efforts to bring God's message and good graces to our church community and community at large. With your help, it truly will be A Grateful Harvest - one in which we can all share and celebrate! If you missed Commitment Weekend, there is still time to submit your pledge. Just drop it by the office, or put it into the mail. Stewardship and pledge information is available on the table in the Commons.

LOVE, Inc. Adopt-a-Family Christmas Program needs YOU!
Love INC is again reaching out in our community with our Adopt A Family Christmas Program. We need your help! Please consider adopting a family for Christmas. Be the hands and feet of Christ that brings a smile to a child's face and joy to a parent's heart. LOVE TO SING?
JOIN CHANCEL CHOIR SHORT TERM
As we have been searching through old pictures of Grace's 150 years, we have found some great old choir pictures. What is most amazing is the size of these choirs - Grace has such a history of great choral music! Now is the time for us to recapture some of that glory and enlarge our Chancel Choir.
With special services occurring in the next few months (including a visit from the Bishop in December!) it would be wonderful to double the size of our current choir. Perhaps now is the time for you to consider stepping into this ministry for a short period of time. Music reading skills are not required, just a love of singing and praising God through music. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30. If you are interested, talk with any choir member, or Kathy Will, Music and Worship Coordinator.

Buy a wreath, support a pilgrim
Place your order Nov. 1 - Dec. 3
Now is the time to plan your holiday decorating, and J2A (our high school youth group) is selling Christmas wreaths again this year. This perennial favorite is a great way to support our youth as they raise funds for their pilgrimage, and also to enjoy a fresh green wreath decorated with a festive red bow, just in time for the Christmas season. The cost is $35 for each 24" wreath. Orders can be placed with any youth group member from Nov 1 - Dec. 3, and wreaths will be delivered to the church on December 10. Thank you for supporting our youth.
Pilgimage - The Movie
Join us at coffee hour on Sunday, Nov. 19 after the 10am service for a video presentation of the history of Grace Pilgrimage. The youth group interviewed leaders, pilgrims, and members of the congregation about what pilgrimage means to Grace Church and compiled the clips into a 30-minute video. It will be playing during coffee hour, and youth group members will be on hand to answer questions.
Thanksgiving Service
Sunday, Nov. 19 at 5pm
Potluck to follow
Please join us for our Thanksgiving Eucharist and potluck on Nov. 19. All are welcome! There will NOT be a service on Thanksgiving Day.
Holiday Baskets
Help our neighbors enjoy a holiday meal with all the trimmings! Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner baskets will be distributed via LOVE, Inc. Our Grace Men's Group coordinates putting the baskets together, with help from Oleson's Food Stores. Each basket contains non-perishable food and vouchers for perishables and meat. The baskets cost about $30 to put together. Please make your check payable to Grace Church, with 'Holiday Basket' on the memo line. Thank you for your generosity!
Cookie Walk Dec. 16: Time to prepare
It's that time of year...we are looking for volunteers to help with our annual Cookie Walk, both as bakers contributing cookies and as volunteers to help us during the event. Our top selling cookies each year are special holiday and family favorite cookies - what's in your recipe box? Special items like jams, small fruit or other holiday cakes and savory cookies always sell out. We need extra helpers on three important days: Thurs., Dec. 14 for organizing and washing display platters during the day (morning or
afternoon shift); Fri., Dec. 15 for cookie intake during the morning, and room set-up in the afternoon; and the day of our event, Sat., Dec. 16 to work the event and help clean up afterwards. Over the years, the Cookie Walk has supported many improvements to our kitchen and parish hall, and more recently, we've raised money for local and international charities. This year, we are supporting a new commercial dishwasher for our kitchen, along with other donors and grant organizations. Help us make a significant contribution to all the feeding ministries and parish fellowship that originate in our kitchen, using our 1972 dishwasher (that's 45 years old, for those of you doing the math). Cookies will sell for $8 per pound this year, and we will have pre-made platters available purchase on Cookie Walk day for $20. As always, if you are unable to participate by baking or helping during the event, we encourage you to donate by writing a check to Grace Church with 'Cookie Walk' on the memo line. Please contact Maxcie at 947-6376, or Ellen at 933-4006 if you can help. Thank you for your generosity!

What's Happening at Grace?
What's Happening in our Diocese?
Turn in your Oleson's receipts to benefit the Grace Food Pantry!
Oleson's Community Share Program
Here's how it works:
- You shop at Oleson's for groceries (liquor sales do not qualify for points)
- Turn in your receipts to the church. Look for the envelope on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall, and place your receipts inside it.
- We submit receipts back to Oleson's
- We are granted cash rewards for the food pantry ($1 spent on groceries = 1 cent in Community Share points)
For every $5000 in receipts we submit, we receive $50 in cash for our food pantry. Every little bit helps!
Thank you for participating!
