STAY INFORMED:
Peachjar eFlyers

Last year, FVSD began utilizing an electronic flyer distribution system, Peachjar, in an effort to improve communication, ensure a strong link between home and school, and to enhance community support and involvement in our schools. Every school, the District Office, and outside organizations uses Peachjar to distribute district-approved e-flyers to families district wide .  We are excited about the addition of Peachjar and look forward to this means of communication! Learn more.
FACILITIES MASTER PLAN (FMP)

District staff, parents, Trustees, community leaders, and even students have worked together with LPA Architects, Inc. to create a detailed Facilities Master Plan (FMP).  The District's newly developed FMP identifies a vision for the next 10 to 15 years and provides a road map to coordinate short and long-range goals for our school buildings.

Happy Friday!!

This has been an extremely busy and exciting time for our District and we are thrilled to share some of our latest highlights and accomplishments!! Please take a few moments to read below.

At this this time of the year, it is always nice to take a moment to recognize how grateful we are for the things around us and in our lives. For me, it continues to be an honor and a privilege to serve our students, families, employees and community, as part of the FVSD Family. There is nothing more important for a society than taking care of its youth, and I am proud of the work we do on behalf of children, each and everyday.  FVSD is a special place, because of the people, and we are all lucky to be together.

As we prepare to head into break, the entire FVSD Family would like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving!!

Kindly,
Mark Johnson, Ed.D.
Superintendent

SPOTLIGHT:  Masuda Middle School Honors Local Veterans
As part of an annual tradition that goes back for many years, Masuda Middle School hosted local veterans to thank them for their service and dedication to our country. In addition, there is always representation from the Masuda Family, which the school was named after more than 40 years ago. Principal Adams provided the history of Staff Sergeant Kazuo Masuda; student Hugo Nguyen sang The Star Spangled Banner;  and, students from the band and choir performed  America, the Beautiful , led by Mr. C. We were honored to have retired FVSD employee and veteran, Martin Wauson, provide the keynote address. Mr. Wauson's comments focused on the warmth veterans feel when someone, especially a student, thanks them for their service.  Student Zander Sherry closed the event with his performance of Taps.   It was a wonderful morning at Masuda and a touching tribute to our local veterans!
FOCUS: All Elementary Schools Jump Into Balanced Literacy
Last week, FVSD hosted its very own professional level conference, called #FVSD CAN'T STOP THE READING. Teachers from all seven elementary schools came together to study and learn more about Balanced Literacy with our partners, Growing Educators. It was a powerful day filled with 27 sessions on the components of reading. We learned more about shared reading, interactive read aloud, conferring, Readers Workshop and small group instruction. In addition, one of our greatest partners, Hyundai, gave the District $25,000 to purchase books to build classroom libraries. Check out the video below, and join us in our passion for ensuring all students read at a high level!!

FOCUS: Middle Schools Enjoy a Day of Learning, Together
During our November 9th non-student day, our FVSD middle school teachers and principals spent the day continuing their learning on different ways to engage our students at higher levels. Building off the research by John Hattie, Visible Learning, each site, Talbert, Masuda, and Fulton, took time to reflect on lessons to: better define learning targets, use student data to inform practices, and increase the rigor for all learners.  We are very proud of our middle school teams for collectively engaging in this learning and continuing to seek out ways to make sure ALL students in FVSD thrive.
HIGHLIGHT: Middle School Soccer Tournament
Every year, our three middle schools compete in the Annual Middle School Soccer Tournament, at Talbert Middle School. In preparation for the event, each of our schools hosts tryouts, builds both a boys and a girls team, and begins a series of after school practices to get ready to compete. In addition, we typically invite a local private school, Grace Lutheran this year, to round out the schedule with four teams. The day also includes the cheerleaders and the band from the hosting school, with both groups performing throughout the day. It is an absolute thrill to watch our students, many of whom are friends, demonstrate their passion and skill for this amazing sport. Moreover, it is always great to see hundreds of parents and family members come out to see the kids play.  Big thank you to all three of our schools...the coaches, activity directors, teachers and administrators for working so hard to connect our students to school, through sports.  And, a huge thank you to Talbert Middle School's band, cheer team, teachers, PTO, and administrators for hosting such a wonderful day.  I always leave inspired!!!
