Congress has not authorized continued federal funding for Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) in spite of broad, bipartisan support. Colorado has reserve funds to continue its CHP+ program through January 2018, but beginning Nov. 20, it will begin notifying all CHP+ members that their coverage might end as of Jan. 31, 2018, unless Congress renews the funding.

Proposed Opioid Prescribing Reforms
An interim legislative task force met over the summer to discuss Colorado's opioid abuse epidemic and possible solutions. In late October, the task force voted to introduce a bill (Bill B) in the 2018 legislative session to address reforms applicable to all prescribers of opioids, including dentists.

Vacancies on Dental Board and Senior Dental Advisory Committee
The Colorado Dental Board will have two open seats beginning in January, one for a dentist and one for a public member. The Governor's Office of Boards and Commissions is accepting applications for these positions. Pediatric dentists in particular are encouraged to apply.

Dental Board Stops Sleep Apnea Policy Discussions
In October, the Colorado Dental Board voted to stop discussions and take no further action on sleep apnea. The board will not consider any rule or policy at this time, meaning the current status quo prevails (which leaves some uncertainty in terms of policy and enforcement).
