'Tis The Season - For GIVING!

A Note From Pastor Linda

For God so loved the world that God GAVE... ~John 3.16

Advent Greetings,

With the shopping season in full swing one might think this is the season for GETTING; asking those on your list, "   What do you WANT this Christmas?"

This season I invite you to consider the gift of GIVING yourself rather than STUFF. To spend less this season (on stuff) so that you can give away more (to people and places that are in need). John 3.16 reminds us that this is a season for GIVING- for God so GAVE. There are so many ways to give- here are a few opportunities at Hosanna:
  • The Giving Tree- a partnership with Lutheran Social Services (see more information below)
  • Beer & Hymns Christmas Edition- a fundraiser for The Lakes Area MobilePack; this Sunday, December 10 from 7-9pm at Stella's. An opportunity to sing Christmas carols with Charlie O and the Hosanna Worship Team, to check out the MarketPlace (items from FMSC's partners will be available- a gift with a purpose), a raffle and more! Purchase tickets here- invite a few friends!
  • Donate a few Christmas cookies or dough for the Youth Bake Sale benefitting the Youth Gathering in 2018. (see more information below)
  • Give a year end gift to Hosanna to help us fulfill all our year end obligations and continue the strong impact on our community- both near and far. Give online here.

Try giving more away this yearend- your time, your talent, your treasures. Why? Because I have discovered that everything changes when you get out of your own way and stop worrying about what you may get or save or achieve and instead focus on what you can give others.

Today I stumbled across this wonderful 3-minute video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2MORc0ZCo8) by comedian Michael Jr., where he describes the difference it has made in his life and career to stop trying to  get people to laugh and instead  give  them the opportunity to do so. I heard him this past summer at the Willow Creek Conference that our staff and leadership attended. He is not only a comedian but also a man of deep faith. I love his final invitation to all of us to "be the punchline!"; to give rather than get. It's a great piece filled with possibility; I hope you can watch it. Please- watch it- #bethepunchline: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2MORc0ZCo8 !

Waiting and Wondering, and GIVING!
 ~Pastor Linda

PS- Giving Cards were returned this last Sunday; we received 65 cards. Thank you to everyone who participated, making giving financially to Hosanna, your church home and family, a commitment and priority. If you have not had the opportunity to return your Giving Card- it is not too late!! Giving Cards are available at Hosanna.

Dispelling the Myths and Misconceptions About Hospice Care
Wednesday, January 10, 2017

On Wednesday, January 10 from 6:30pm - 7:30pm the Befrienders Group will be conducting a training on Hospice Care. Hospice Care is designed to provide specialized support and comfort during an advanced illness. The purpose of this training session is to help clarify the patient services that Hospice care offers so that you and your loved ones can benefit from hospice care.
Here are a few facts you may not know about Hospice:
  • The earlier you receive Hospice care, the more opportunity there is to stabilize medical conditions;
  • Hospice care can be paid for by Medicare, Medicaid or most insurance ;
  • While in Hospice care you may choose to continue aggressive treatments for the purpose of symptom management
