SERVICE
Sunday, November 19, 10:00 AM, "Gratitude for Indian Generosity," Rev. Sam Trumbore
White European settlers here in America got a lot of help from the native peoples they encountered. Yes there was conflict but there was also an enormous amount of cultural exchange and learning. Some of our most cherished traditions have direct links to the Indians. This service concludes with a litany of gratitude and the enjoyment of corn mini-muffins baked that morning by Rev. Trumbore.

The elves are checking on who's naughty and nice - and who has made crafts for the

Holiday Bazaar. Sigrin Newell can put in a good word for you with the elves if you can make crafts or stocking stuffers for adults, children or pets.
Crafters can put finished work in the box labeled "Crafters" on the top shelf in the coat room.
Be sure to shop our Holiday Bazaar on Sunday, Dec. 3 during Coffee Hour -- not the mall! Shop for special gifts made by Albany UUs--aprons, table linens, jams, decorations, jewelry, candles, novels, stained glass, pottery, origami art, cloth gift bags, ornaments and more. Buy local - support our members and the good work of our congregation.
Getting to Know UU: orientation to UUism
Saturday, Dec. 9, 8:45 am-noon
We invite you to join us for "Getting to Know UU". We'll start with coffee and snacks and getting to know each other. You'll learn about Unitarian Universalism and about our congregation. We'll talk about how to get involved in the Albany UU community and about becoming a member. It's a fun morning of conversation and fellowship, and a pleasant first step on the path to membership! Childcare is available: please let us know you need it when you register.
Holiday Tree Decorating
Sunday, Dec. 10, during Coffee Hour
Join in the making of simple ornaments and decorations to decorate the tree in Channing Hall. You can also bring an ornament to donate to the tree.
Holiday Music Jam
The annual Albany UU Holiday Music Jam will take place on Sunday, Dec. 17 during coffee hour. We play from the books Festive Strings and More Festive Strings, by Joanne Martin. Music will be available in treble, alto, and bass clefs. The event is multi-generational, multi-level, and multi-instrumental.
There will be a basket of shakers and other percussion instruments available for those inclined to join in spontaneously.
If the instrument you play needs chord notation (guitar, accordion, etc.) or if you would like more information, please contact Anne Marie Haber at [email protected] or (home) 518.274.5541.

Screening and discussion of "13th"
Saturday, Nov. 18 - 7:30 p.m. - at Albany UU in Channing Hall - the Solidarity Committee of the Capital District continues its 2017-2018 film series with the screening of "13th". This documentary draws upon historic film footage, as well as interviews with activists, scholars, and politicians, to highlight the deliberate criminalization of African Americans and the resulting vast expansion of the U.S. prison population. Among those interviewed are Michelle Alexander, Angela Davis, Van Jones, Henry Lewis Gates, and even Newt Gingrich.
Green Sanctuary suggests:
Sundays, Nov.
19 and 26, Carol Butt will have her wonderful cloth gift bags at the Social Responsibility table for a free-will donation. Christmas paper cannot be recycled. What's better than an attractive, re-usable wrap? They also make great gifts. Come and see!
And, If you use cloth ribbon for wrapping, it can be used again and again -- even in a little girl's hair, or give it to Ps and Qs.
Albany UU is recycling the following in the cloakroom: hearing aid batteries, aluminum tabs from cans, inkjet cartridges, cell phones, Brita detritus, personal care products such as toothpaste tubes and brushes, paper egg cartons, blankets, coats, mittens, hats, corks. In addition,
Deborah
Vogel has started recycling tyvek envelopes -- you, know the ones we receive at Silver Bay. Check out this site for more information - http://mooncatchers.weebly.com/
