HELP US GET TO 500!

We are currently 491 members strong - that means we are only 9 members away from hitting 500. Help us get there by the end of December!

What will it take? Spread the word about our impact. Now is the time to invite that woman you've been meaning to ask. They can join immediately...or, if they want to learn more,  invite them to one of our events.

We need our full membership recruiting members to help achieve our 500 member goal. Remember - with each Woman's Impact Fund member added, the community wins.

A New Look for Women's Impact Fund!

We are very excited to share our new Women's Impact Fund logo!

The communications and marketing committee started this rebranding journey more than a year ago with the goal of creating a visual brand that is reflective of our organization today and our mission. They worked with local agency The Idea People which provided its services pro bono and spent many hours getting to know the Women's Impact Fund, including attending our annual meeting to talk with members and see us in action.

The new logo is intended to communicate the collective and inclusive nature of Women's Impact Fund. The "impact" in our name is in larger font and darker blue to emphasize the positive impact we make through philanthropic leadership. The square sliding into position demonstrates our coming together to support solutions to critical community issues. It also signals upward movement and growth, and the resulting white space forms a "w" for women. The font is modern, clean and strong, and italicized to suggest forward moving and thinking.

We hope you are as excited about the new logo as we are!

Please reach out to Jean Miller with any questions.

So Many Reasons to Be Thankful...
by Board Chair Deborah Majewski

During this season of Thanksgiving, we at Women's Impact Fund have much for which to be thankful! Our grants process is well underway. We received 120 LOIs, and our five grants teams are in the process of identifying which non-profits will move forward to the next stages. Also, for the first time, we have a new work team studying possible recipients of our new Spark Initiative grant. We have welcomed new members and enjoyed several great programming opportunities, including Social Hour for Social Issues, On the Table, an in-home social, and other new member recruitment gatherings.

This time of year is also when many focus on their charitable giving. We ask that you consider a gift to our Annual Fund. Did you know that our $300 membership dues amount only covers 75 percent of our overall operating budget? Through the Annual Fund, you can support the programming and member development opportunities which engage, inspire and educate our members. An investment in the Annual Fund is an investment in the continued growth and sustainability of Women's Impact Fund.

Gifts to the Annual Fund can be made by credit card (no fees) through our website, by check, by monthly account draft, or by donating securities. Today's newsletter includes a great article on the benefits of donating shares of stock in lieu of writing a check.

Thanks to each of you for your generous commitment and support of Women's Impact Fund.

Donating Stock Instead of Writing a Check
By Karen R. Keatley, CFA, CFP®

What is the most tax-efficient way to donate to Women's Impact Fund? We know that if you donate by writing a check, your donation is tax deductible. But there's an even better way. By donating appreciated shares in a stock or mutual fund, you can deduct the contribution on your tax return and avoid capital gains taxes on the shares.
Here's an example:

Let's say you intend to donate $2,000 to Women's Impact Fund. You have shares of a stock currently worth $2,000 that you have owned for a long time (must be at least one year), and let's assume that the shares cost $500 when you bought them (also referred to as your "cost basis" in accounting lingo). If you were to sell the shares, you would owe capital gains taxes of $300 ($2,000-$500=$1,500; $1,500 x 20%1 = $300). Your after-tax proceeds would be only $1,700. You would have to come up with an additional $300 to make your $2,000 Women's Impact Fund donation...READ MORE

A Spark Initiative Update
by Susan Patterson, Spark Initiative Chair

The Spark Initiative work team has been busy.

Our first step was to review the Opportunity Task Force Report recommendations and identity organizations working in specific recommendation areas. The team then identified a handful of specific programs that directly address recommendations. Women's Impact Fund members sent ideas that were considered as well.

At this stage in early November, the team has identified a few promising possibilities, and the team expects to recommend an investment to the Board for approval at its December meeting. In this the first year of the initiative, the team is looking and identifying ideas. In future years, we expect members and organizations themselves to come to Women's Impact Fund with ideas for Spark investment, thereby solidifying our role as an active, involved funder in our community.
