Twenty-fourth Sunday After Pentecost
"We invite everyone to share communion around God's altar.
We strive to be a welcoming and relevant Christian community doing what matters through prayer, worship, teaching, outreach, fellowship, and service.
We will demonstrate the real life application of scripture, tradition, and
reason by providing a safe place to respond to each other's needs,
hurts, joys, and interests."

Our Anthem This Sunday:
Sign Me Up
by Kevin Yancy & Jerome Metcalf
Arr. by Jim Engebretson
Chorus:
Sign me up for the Christian jubilee,
write my name on the roll.
I've been changed since the Lord has lifted me,
I want to be ready when Jesus comes.
Verse 1:
When Jesus comes, oh the trumpet will sound loud.
When my Savior comes, all the saints in Christ shall rise.
Oh, I'm glad I've been changed since He lifted me,
I want to be ready when Jesus comes.
Our Communion Song This Sunday:
His Eye is on the Sparrow
A solo by Larry Holbrook
-
Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heav'n and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant Friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
- Refrain:
I sing because I'm happy, I sing because I'm free, For His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
-
"Let not your heart be troubled," His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
-
Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Perspectives On Attending the 111th Annual Council

It was an honor to represent the Parish at this year's Annual Council, and honestly, not the chore I had anticipated. The
Fir
st Baptist Church of Gainesville, where the meeting was held, is a beautiful facility with a fantastic Pastor who couldn't have been more welcoming. Who would have known that at least 1/3 of the attending delegates had a Baptist background before becoming Episcopalians!
It was simply awesome to assist in the church's work, which this year included splitting our present Convocation into the Oconee and Georgia Mountain Convocations, and passing the resolution to "Welcome home" the Episcopal branch of the Jesus movement in Cuba; plus so much more.
I enjoyed making new friends, and seeing old ones from various parishes in the Diocese. By far the most moving experience for me was watching the Diocesan youth lead our Saturday morning worship and participating in council. I was especially touched by Georgia Mountain's own Perry Gresham from Grace Calvary Church and Tallulah Falls School, who addressed the 500 plus delegates with the grace and ease of an experienced speaker. I knew Perry when she was just a shy little girl sitting in the pew of Grace Calvary with her family.
The youth in particular, and the Diocesan Council experience in general, gave me hope and optimism for the future of the Episcopal Church, and this country. Little by little, churches are doing good work in this world, despite what we see in the news. As illustrated by our youth, there is enthusiasm to do so much more if we follow their lead. If you get the opportunity to be a Council Delegate, take it. It is not a chore, rather, a wonderful way to experience God working thru our hands.
Yours in Christ,
Linda Amidon Perry

The 111th Council of the Diocese of Atlanta was held in Gainesville on November 10th and 11th. Council opened with worship at First Baptist church with Bishop Wright and Bishop Daniel Gutierrez of the Diocese of Pennsylvania. We were reminded of our challenge to ourselves and to the world to love like Jesus as we worship joyfully, serve compassionately and grow spiritually.
The Northeast Georgia Convocation hosted this year's council. But instead of one convocation, we are now two; the Oconee Convocation with churches in parishes Athens and southward, and the Georgia Mountains Convocation which includes Resurrection, Camp Mikell, St. Matthias, St. Elizabeth, St. James, St. Gabriel, St. Clare, Grace, Grace-Calvary, and the worshiping community at Alto State Prison for Women.
One lay person and one clergy member from each convocation were recognized with a Bishops cross for their work that embodied our challenge statement. Recipients form the Georgia Mountain Convocation are the Very Reverend Mary Demmler of St. James and John Andrews of Grace-Calvary.
Worship Saturday morning was led by the EYC with singing, scripture and an address. Two resolutions were passed, one asking the legislature not recommend quarantining those with HIV/Aids and the other asking parishes to consider posting state of Georgia regulations dealing with reporting sex trafficking and including contact information.
Six teams from different churches competed in a barbecue cook-off.
Your delegates to council came away with the sense that the Diocese of Atlanta is living into the challenge to " Love like Jesus..."
