This Week at Christ Church
Be the Light!

     By Madison Chase, Youth Minister

If you've ever worked, lived, or interacted with teenagers, you know how hard it can be to get them to make decisions or agree to things. I can usually find activities the youth want to do, but one Sunday recently, I was stuck. I had given them plenty of options, from laser tag to movie nights, but nothing seemed to spark their interest.

Finally, a light bulb went off. "What if...we do some random acts of kindness?"

Every teen's eyes lit up. "Yeah! We could write notes for soldiers overseas!" "And leave sticky notes with positive affirmations around the community!" "And bake things for firefighters and paramedics!"

What would the world look like if everyone was that eager to help one another? I encourage you all to be as eager as the youth to be a source of light and joy as we enter the holiday season.

Come, Lord Jesus!

We are Christ Episcopal Church Kensington! At its last meeting, the Vestry approved a proposal from the Communications Committee to use "Christ Episcopal Church Kensington" as the church's name for all internal and external communications.  The main driver for the change was that our official/legal name (Christ Church Parish Kensington) does not identify the church as Episcopalian and many people now do not know what "parish" means!  It will take some time to roll out the change, and neither the legal name of the church nor the website will change.  In the meantime, please spread the word about the change and about Christ Episcopal Church Kensington.

CPR & AED Refresher Course

A CPR/AED Refresher Course will be offered at Christ Church on Saturday, December 9, from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. Two years ago, 29 members of Christ Church were certified for CPR/AED and First Aid by the American Safety and Health Institute.  Our certifications are about to expire.  We have arranged for a RECERTIFICATION course to be offered here at Christ Church on Saturday, December 9, from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m.   The cost of this class is $40.00/person.  If you are certified and would like to participate in this class, please call the Church Office, (301-942-4673) or send e-mail to [email protected].  Participation is limited to about 16 people.

If you have not been certified, and would like to take a CPR/AED and First Aid course, please let Kurt know. If there is enough interest, we could try to schedule a course at Christ Church. If you have any questions, please call Sharon Bartram (301-946-0632).
