In Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig reveals herself to be a bold new cinematic voice with her directorial debut, excavating both the humor and pathos in the turbulent bond between a mother and her teenage daughter. Christine "Lady Bird" McPherson (Saoirse Ronan) fights against but is exactly like her wildly loving, deeply opinionated and strong-willed mom (Laurie Metcalf), a nurse working tirelessly to keep her family afloat after Lady Bird's father (Tracy Letts) loses his job. Set in Sacramento, California in 2002, amidst a rapidly shifting American economic landscape, Lady Bird is an affecting look at the relationships that shape us, the beliefs that define us, and the unmatched beauty of a place called home.

Worship with Us this Weekend!

Please join us this Sunday for Traditional Worship at 9:30 and/or Informal Worship at 11:00am where our scripture passages will be Psalm 143 and Luke 24:1-12 with a sermon entitled Women's Wounds, Women's Wisdom. When you read the Gospel lesson in preparation for Sunday, don't think you boarded a time machine... we are at the end of the church year and about to move into a new church year with Advent's journey to Christmas... but we have some things to be sure to think about from where we have been and where we want to/need to go.

We will receive our annual Thanksgiving offering for the important and impactful UCC ministry to children and youth at Every Child's Hope - formerly Evangelical Children's Home which began in the mid-1800s to love the kids that were orphaned at that tough time in US History.

The Sustainability Seekers will sell Fair Trade chocolate and coffee after both services through the end of the year. The group is now raising funds for the purchase of both mugs and a dishwasher for the coffee nook area.

Inspiration
Being generous often consists of simply extending a hand. That's hard to do if you are grasping tightly to your righteousness, your belief system, your superiority, your assumptions about others, your definition of normal. ~Patti Digh
