You're invited: Drake decommissioning town hall meetings

The Utilities Board is hosting two town hall events to gather public input about decommissioning the Martin Drake Power Plant earlier than 2035.

Telephone Town Hall Meeting
  • Wednesday, Nov. 29 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • Register to receive a phone call that will connect you to the conversation.
  • Or participate in this event online.
In-person Town Hall Meeting
  • Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 6:00 p.m.
  • City Hall, 107 N. Nevada Ave, #300
There are a range of items being considered in this decision, including rate impacts, utility uses for the Drake location and downtown revitalization plans.

Electric rate decreases

On Nov. 1, new rate decreases went into effect for our electric and natural gas customers. As a non-profit, community-owned utility, we pass changes in fuel costs--up or down--directly on to our customers. Our staff initiates fuel cost adjustments in a timely manner to respond to fluctuations in market price and consumption.

The net decrease to the typical monthly residential bill is $3.03, or 1.3 percent.  For more information on your rates, go to csu.org
Holiday light exchange

Now through Dec. 24, electric customers can drop off old holiday light strands at our Conservation and Environmental Center and receive up to $15 off* the purchase of new LED strands.

Can't make it to the Conservation and Environmental Center? Visit your local ACE Hardware store from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on select days for in-store exchanges.

Your old lights will be recycled and funds will be donated to Project COPE , the only local organization that dedicates its entire funding to utilities payment assistance year-round.

*One $5 coupon per strand exchanged. Limit 3.
