Principal Message:  November 16, 2017
D ear Parents,

We have had a great week of learning and character building at Lovejoy Elementary.  We are very excited about our Thanksgiving lunch today and our Leopard Fun Run Tomorrow.  If we can get every student to receive a $60 flat donation or $2 pledge per lap, then we can reach our goal and get our beautiful shade!!
As a reminder, here is our Thanksgiving lunch schedule.
4th Grade - 10:45
2nd Grade - 11:15
3rd Grade - 11:45
1st Grade - 12:15
Kindergarten - 12:45 (program follows lunch)

We appreciate everyone supporting our Recycle Drive. We have collected 30 coats and 116 books. THANK YOU!!!  Mrs. Dawson is currently sorting through the books and some will become part of our collection.  Tomorrow, our theme is Recycle Pet Supplies!! Bring gently used blankets, towels, dried or canned food, pet toys, and litter for The Collin County Animal Shelter. For more information, please click here for a copy of these details.

I want to personally wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving.  I am very grateful to be a part of this amazing community. I hope that your week is filled with many great memories and safe travels. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me.
All My Best,
Wendy Craft

LEOPARD FUN RUN!!! TOMORROW!

Operation Shade
This year we will continue to raise money to cover our playground with shade. We need to raise $25,000 this year!  In order to help us raise money, we are going to have a Boosterthon Fun Run. We are encouraging each student to raise money to help us earn our shade.  Since the shade is so expensive, this is our second year to raise money.

If we can get every student to receive a $60 flat donation or $2 pledge per lap, then we can reach our goal and get our beautiful shade!!

FOR THE FUN RUN, PLEASE WEAR AN OLD SHIRT OR YOUR BOOSTERTHON SHIRT FROM LAST YEAR! We will be counting laps by using a sticker and sharpie marker on the back of the shirt.

Leopard Fun Run Schedule -
8:30 - 2nd and 3rd Grade
9:30 - 4th Grade
10:30 - Kindergarten and 1st Grade

The Lovejoy Gifted Association invites you to join them for an evening of wit and wisdom shared by parents of recent Lovejoy GT graduates. This is an opportunity to receive answers to questions you may have.  The Parent Panel members will share their stories and perspective on how to help you and your children get the most from the GT programs in LISD. It's a great opportunity for families who are new to GT to get a head start, as well as for families who have been with GT and are looking to reconnect as their children's interests continue to evolve and change. The event is sponsored by The Lovejoy Gifted Association and is open to all parents, teachers and students who are interested in learning more about the Gifted and Talented programs. You do not have to be a member to attend. Please contact Piritta van Rijn with questions.

Fourth Grade Recorders
4th grade music students at Lovejoy will learn to play the recorder. In order to ensure that each student gets a quality instrument and to provide a level of convenience to our busy families, we will be collecting $3.00 per student and ordering the instruments from our music supplier. You can pay cash or check to Lovejoy Elementary or purchase online at https://lovejoy.revtrak.net
If you already own a recorder, it is not necessary to purchase one through the school . However, I would like to caution you against purchasing an instrument from a discount retailer. These instruments are generally of inferior quality and play out of tune. If cost is a concern, please contact Mrs. Hebert [email protected] and we will work with you to get a quality instrument for your child.

School Bus Safety Practices
We would like to remind everyone of the following school bus safety practices:

*When you see a school bus, assume children will be in the area, and take extra care: leave lots of space around the bus.

*When the bus turns on its flashing yellow lights, the bus is either preparing to stop at a railroad crossing or preparing to stop to pick up or drop off children.  Please slow down and prepare to stop.

*When the bus turns on its flashing red lights traffic must stop in both directions.  Never pass a school bus with flashing red lights.

Thank you for your assistance in helping to keep our students safe.
