MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID SENIORS

The Government of Alberta is providing training free of charge to help build skills in recognizing and effectively responding to an emerging mental health problem or crisis. Anyone living in Alberta who is a senior, cares for or works with seniors is eligible.

Participants will learn how to:
  • Recognize the symptoms of mental health problems or crises as they develop
  • Provide initial help when dealing with a mental health problem or crisis
  • Guide a senior and/or caregiver toward appropriate professional help
  • Provide strategies and resources to support both seniors and their caregivers

SCHIZOPHRENIA PRESENTATIONS

The Schizophrenia Society of Alberta's Community Education Program offers a free 1 hour or 1.5-hour presentation that offers lived-experience perspectives on serious mental health issues. Every presentation offers current facts about schizophrenia and similar disorders, the impact of psychosis, and personal stories to show the journey through illness and into recovery.  Presenters will come to your location in the daytime or evening.

Luminaria at the U of A Botanic Gardens marks the beginning of the winter season with a breathtaking display of thousands of candles along the paths of the Kurimoto Japanese Garden. Visitors can count on their favourite elements such as a stroll through the candle-lit pathways, hot apple cider beside the bonfires, ice sculptures, and delightful snow sprites.
