Dear Students, Parents, Teachers & Friends of Education,
Auburn Elementary Teachers Are Innovative
Bridget McNeill (L), a fifth grade teacher at Auburn Elementary was recently awarded a 5,000 Innovation in Social Emotional Learning (SEL) grant by Education First in collaboration with the NoVo Foundation and the Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors to support a school-based, SEL project. As part of the grant award, she and Deena Eberhardt (R), instructional coach at Auburn Elementary, were invited to attend the SEL in Action Conference in New Mexico that convened on October 25-27 and were asked to present their project, The Power of Instructional Conversations, to other SEL practitioners.

Third Grade Dictionary Project
The goal of this program is to assist all students in becoming good writers, active readers, creative thinkers, and resourceful learners by providing them with their own personal dictionary. The dictionaries are a gift to each student to use at school and at home for years to come. Educators see third grade as the dividing line between learning to read and reading to learn.

Russell Middle Teacher's Bright Ideas
Bright Ideas is a program from Jackson Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) aimed at funding creative, innovative classroom projects developed by teachers. This grant program provides funds to state certified educators in a public middle school in Jackson EMC's service area.
Mr. Batchelor's Engineering & Technology class received a $1,200 grant from Jackson EMC's Bright Ideas initiative. His class will be using the money to purchase coding drones that the students will operate by programming them to fly using specific coding language and commands.
Mrs. Hollingsworth was awarded a $2000 grant from Jackson EMC for her project titled, "The Art of Science 3D Printing." She plans to use the money to purchase a classroom 3D printing lab to give students the opportunity to integrate art and also to bring their invention prototypes to life.
