Dear Saint Rose Families,

There is much to be thankful for as we approach one of my favorite holidays of the year.  We have a school with strong Catholic values, where students are academically challenged and supported.  Our enrollment is strong and we are financially sound.  The students are supported by dedicated teachers who go above and beyond in the formation of their students.  Our students are kind, supportive and a lot of fun to be around.  We have a great parish and congregation that have supported this mission for 150 years.  Our parents support our school with their time, talent and trust.  I hope that you have a great Thanksgiving. I am looking forward to the time with my family.

Sincerely,

Bryon Borgelt

5th Grade Visits the Toledo Museum of Art

Recently the 5th graders visited the Toledo Museum of Art and participated in "WordShop."  The tour encouraged students to use descriptive language in their writing process and included three writing exercises. One exercise focused on adjectives, one on creating poetry (cinquain), and the third on a descriptive paragraph.  Each writing featured a different piece of art in a different gallery.  The work of art in the photos below is titled "Homeless Child 2."

Mrs. Kathy Henry, 5th grade teacher said, "It was a very worthwhile visit.  As a follow up, the 5th graders will be creating a writing piece that will lead them through a close looking exercise to extend the learning following their WordShop visit to the Toledo Museum of Art."

Every year each grade level, preschool through 8th grade, visits the Toledo Museum of Art, where the classes experience art through different workshops that match up with Saint Rose School curriculum.

3rd Grade Tours Historic Perrysburg

3rd graders recently completed a local history project focused on the homes and buildings of Historic Perrysburg. Students gathered facts, created a presentation, and shared their research with their classmates as they toured the town.  It was a great day of the history of early Perrysburg and the people that helped to establish our town.

FAIR TRADE SALE TO BENEFIT GLOBAL POVERTY
NOV. 18 & 19

As Eighth graders at Saint Rose School, we have been assigned a PBL project in Religion class. PBL stands for Project Based Learning, and the goal is to tackle a real world problem.  Our class's driving question is "How Can we Help Build the Kingdom of God on Earth?".

We have chosen to help people in poor countries through Fair Trade. Fair Trade works to insure that people in other countries get the amount of money they deserve for items that they are trying to sell. "In addition to beautiful jewelry, home decor and gifts they won't find anywhere else" (Fair Trade's website), the impact that that your purchase makes today is great. Your purchase gives people great dignity which is important for every human being.  This program is sponsored by Catholic Relief Services.

We are hosting a table in the church basement after the Masses on November 18 and 19 at the Altar Sodality Holiday Craft Sale. We hope that you are generous in purchasing beautiful hand-made items perhaps as gifts for Christmas or Sacraments so that the people in poorer countries can live better lives. Please help us to fight global poverty and take action now! We will be here after all the Masses. Thank You.

From Student Council

Everyone loves a friendly competition and when it's for a good cause, it's even better! Student Council is putting the Lower Elementary vs the Upper Elementary/Middle School against each other to see who can bring in the most non-perishable food to donate to PCU Food Bank. The competition will end on November 17.  Bring in your non-perishable items and see who will earn an alternate dress day!

Any boxed or canned non-perishable item is welcomed. PCU believes it has been called to provide assistance to individuals and families in needful situations. CONTINUING ADULT FAITH FORMATION

"Too old too soon, too smart too late." That mantra comes to mind every time I
think about how I would have raised my daughters differently had I been more
knowledgeable about my Catholic faith. If I had life to live over again, the one
thing I would invest more time in would be learning and living a more authentic
practice of my Catholic faith as a mother and parent. It is the one investment that
offers eternal rewards." Mary Alice Newnam, St. Rose Parishioner
