State award winners

Thirty-six Carrollton Junior High School Junior Beta Club members attending the state Junior Beta Convention wrapped up their stay in Savannah on Friday. During their time there, awards presentations were held in a variety of subject areas. Two CJHS eighth graders earned state honors for their submissions: Grace Reid, left, placed third in Black and White Photography and Kaydee Martin, right, placed fourth in Handmade Jewelry. Congratulations to both on their accomplishments!
Student work selected for prestigious art show
Works of two Carrollton High School Advanced Placement art students have been selected to be included in a regional competition/exhibition to be held Birmingham-Southern College next month.

Senior Crisella Garcia, right, pictured with her piece titled "Pinnacle," and junior Nicole Lopez-Miranda's work "Nevertheless" were accepted in the show, hosted by the college's Art & Art History Department and the Admissions Office. The purpose of the competition is to recognize and promote talented rising artists in the Southeastern United States.

"I am extremely proud of Crisella and Nicole and thrilled their pieces have been selected for this prestigious show," said Jake Richardson, AP art teacher at CHS. "They are indeed talented and deserve this exceptional recognition." MORE
'Grinch' readers theater production a big hit
The Carrollton Elementary School Performing Arts Academy presented an outstanding production of "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" Wednesday night through the lens of readers theater, a structured academic program that incorporates a dramatic presentation of a work of literature in a script form. Advocates for readers theater note that in the classroom, lines are not memorized. The focus is on reading text with expressive voices and gestures, making comprehending the text more meaningful and fun. Check out two dozen more photos from Wednesday night's whimsical production on the  CES Facebook page .
