For K-12 educators, the answer has been to ban smartphones from the classroom completely. College professors have also banned smartphones in increasing numbers. But now there's some evidence to suggest that banning smartphones in the college classroom isn't such a good idea.

Learning design experts partner with developers to design online courses that emphasize dynamic content and engagement.

Maryville University's online programs are seeing growth in enrollment and academic offerings as designers and technical developers transform courses into digital learning experiences.

The design studio, which features a green screen, lightboard, and Microsoft Surface Hub technology, is where some of the most visible innovation happens. Professors appear to walk around inside equations and film an interview in front of the Eiffel Tower. They pull in graphics with a live key, much like a TV weather reporter illustrates storms. And they create webinars and podcasts.
