December 3, 2017
From Our Principal

I hope you had a happy and restful Thanksgiving!

PICTURE RETAKE day is here! Monday, December 4th is retake/candid picture day! Any student that requires a picture retake needs to bring their original pictures back to school on Monday. We have extra picture order forms in the main office if you would still like to purchase pictures.

On Tuesday, December 5th we have our annual 5th and 6th grade choir concert at Westlake High School's Performing Arts Center (PAC) starting at 7:00. Students need to arrive by 6:30 and are expected to dress up for their performance (Girls: dress, skirt or dress pants with a nice top. Boys: dress pants and collared shirt, ties are encouraged). This is a special event and we want the students to look and feel their best! Please contact the choir director, Joni Patton  with questions.

Intermediate students are at the age when they often begin to utilize social media, but don't always exercise the best judgment when afforded unrestricted access. Over the years I have seen students use their social media accounts in ways that mistreat others, damage relationships and cause disruptions here at school. The best way to prevent this is parental awareness and involvement. Please remember to regularly check your child's social media accounts so you're aware of what they're posting and the different accounts they access. It will help prevent social issues now and in the future. Thank you in advance!

Finally, please add one final music date to your calendar. December 12th at 7:00 is our 6th grade band/orchestra concert at Westlake High School's Performing Arts Center. Hope to see you there!

DIS Annual Holiday Giving Program

Monday, Dec 4 kicks off the 19th annual holiday giving program. Dover Intermediate as "adopted" 28 children from St. Malachi's after school program and 16 adult residents in the City of Westlake for this holiday season.  DIS students will be raising money the next 2 weeks (Dec 4-Dec 15) for these 44 people that could use the generosity of our DIS community to brighten their holidays!  Students have been encouraged to give of themselves (donate their weekly allowance, do chores around the house or for a neighbor to earn money, skip buying ice cream in the cafeteria for the next 2 weeks, etc) and to share this donation for the people our school have "adopted". Student council reps will be shopping for requested gifts and then the gifts will be wrapped by the students of DIS and delivered. We hope that this program gives all our DIS students an opportunity to help others. Thank you for supporting this program and helping your child understand what the holiday season is truly about!
