For the past 5 years, I have been committed to enhancing government transparency and improving communications to our residents and business owners.

On Wednesday November 29, 2017 the Village held our first Community Outreach Program by combining our HOA and Business Summit Meetings. Through the use of email, the Village Newsletter, public notice and our web page, the Village invited Business owners, HOA’s and all residents to participate. With the exception of a board member from Bradford Place, none of our nineteen HOA’s, none of our 172 business owners and only eight of 18,289 residents attended. ONLY EIGHT!

These events require resources from Department Heads, Administration, Elected Officials and media. I am not one to waste resources. Therefore, as much as it saddens me I am officially ending the Community Outreach Program. I can guarantee that the Village will continue to govern with transparency and accountability. We will continue promoting our plans to provide sustainable economic growth and stability. We will continue to keep you informed by posting information and communicating through our newsletter and web page. Please remember that we do want to hear from you, we cherish your feedback.

I hope to see you at the Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 8th at Village Hall. May you all have a wonderful, joyous and safe Holiday.

                                          Sincerely,
                                                  Mayor Dan MacGillis

Snow Operations: Important FAQ
It won't be long until the snowplows are operating on Round Lake streets. During the snow season, our Public Works Department works hard to balance public safety with preserving personal property.

Frequently Asked Questions:

My street wasn't plowed or salted, who do I contact?  Most streets in the Village are plowed and salted by the Public Works Department however; there are some that are maintained by the State, County, Township or Homeowners Association. You can call the Public Works Department at 847-546-0962 and they will direct you to the appropriate agency.

What are the rules for parking on the street during snow removal?  According to Village code section 10.16.120 “It is unlawful to park any vehicle on any public street or alley in the village at any time within twelve (12) hours after a snowfall of two inches or more has occurred, or until the snow has been removed.” This includes parallel parking your vehicle in front of your driveway.

Do I have to shovel the snow off my sidewalk in front of my house?  Village residents are required to remove any snow and ice on public sidewalks adjacent to their properties. If snow or ice cannot be removed, the surface should be treated to lessen the hazard for pedestrians.
Snow and Ice Removal Plan
During a snow or ice event Public Works is tasked with making our streets reasonably safe for residents. This responsibility includes providing snow and ice removal for 55 centerline miles of streets, including 71 cul-de-sacs and dead ends. For more information regarding the Village Snow and Ice Removal Plan, visit: Snow Plan 2017-2018
Protect Your Water Meter
Public Works receives periodic requests to shut off the water at homes every winter because the water pipes freeze and then burst. This costly rupture can cause serious damage especially in vacant homes where it may go unnoticed for days. If your water meter is in a crawl space, check to make sure it’s insulated and heated.
Snow Removal Reminders
Please remember to remove basketball hoops, planters and any other items away from the edge of the roadway or cul-de-sacs. Occasionally, Public Works will need to push snow up into the parkway a few feet.

Garbage cans should be placed on the parkway or driveway apron; they cannot be placed in the road.

When clearing your driveway, please do not blow snow into the road. This can cause localized icing and can be very dangerous for motorists. Please push the snow to the right side of the driveway whenever possible so snowplows don’t drag large piles back across your driveway apron.

Additional News and Updates
Please join us in Congratulating several Officers who were recognized the Village Board Meeting on November 6th for their exceptional work!

Life Saving Awards were presented to Ofc. Schmidt and Ofc. Cooper (top left) , as well as Ofc. Robinson and Ofc. Goodwin - RLBPD (top right) .

Also, Detective Sergeant Prus (bottom) was recognized as the 2016 Officer of the Year!
You may have noticed some Round Lake Officers looking a little scruffy this month. And you may have noticed some others with pink undershirts. Well, here's why! All officers were given the opportunity to donate money to a cancer charity. In return, the policy was waived for males to grow a beard and females to have colored nail polish along with the pink undershirts! And we can't forget about the  Pink Patch Project   which we continue to be a part of!
Overnight Parking..... Although the Village has a no parking ordinance on Village streets from 2:00 am to 6:00 am, we do allow overnight parking on a special request basis. To request overnight street parking, please contact Police Dispatch at (847) 270-9111. Please be sure to have the vehicle information and emergency contact information available.
Tree Removal Program. ..The Village has renewed its contract for tree removal work and the contractor is set to begin in December. The contractor will mainly be removing dead parkway trees.
Enjoy the Holiday Bustle - But Be Aware
With all the distractions and activity, we sometimes forget the basics about safety on the streets and at home.
Always be aware of your surroundings and remember to lock your vehicle and home doors. Don’t leave packages and /or valuables in your vehicle in plain sight. Please also be aware in parking lots, banks, and ATMs.

From all of us at the Village of Round Lake, we wish you and your family a wonderful holiday and a Happy New Year!
