Happy Almost Thanksgiving!
What's Happening, November 2017 Edition                                       Bill Haines, Editor

We want to take a moment to let you know how thankful we are to have you as a member of our church family.

Homemade Turkey Thanksgiving Dinner
We are grateful to St. Damien's parish, Ocean City, for their generous donation!
They are donating 60 Thanksgiving food boxes to The Branches. They are also donating and preparing everything needed for The Branches to serve a Thanksgiving dinner for those in need in Rio Grande on Tuesday, Nov. 21st at 11:30 AM.

St. Mary's needs to supply large cans of turkey gravy, cranberry sauce, and desserts. The turkeys need to be roasted and sliced in our church kitchen. Please let Sandra Lockhart (484-888-1591) know how you can help.
We are thankful for our priests
News from the medical front indicates Fr. Peter is feeling much better and intends to be with us after Thanksgiving. Fr. Gorman has recuperated from a bout with "walking pneumonia" and is filling in for Peter at both Sunday services. Our get well prayers to Peter and prayers of appreciation are extended to Fr. Gorman.

In addition to being celebrant at both services, Fr. Gorman leads us in Adult Forum between services in the chapel. We are ending our reading and discussions of The Altars Where We Worship this Sunday, Nov. 19th and will begin reading and discussing Adam Hamilton's book, Faithful - Christmas Through the Eyes of Joseph beginning on November 26th and continuing through the Advent season. Have you ever thought of Joseph as the "Patron Saint of Doubters?" Come join us and share different insights of the Christmas Story.
Service of Praise and Thanksgiving
Get into the Thanksgiving mode by attending the annual Ecumenical Service at Maris Stella RC Church, 54th & Dune Dr., Avalon, on Sunday, Nov. 19th at 7 PM. Choirs from the 7 Mile Island churches will sing the anthem and our organist/choir director, David Condo will lead the choirs.

Thank you Lorrie and George Zitnay
for organizing and hosting our first St. Mary's Senior Luncheon Club on Thursday, November 9th. A delicious lunch was prepared and served by the Zitnay's. George followed with a wonderful presentation on "How to Keep our Brain Healthy as we Age."

The next luncheon will be on Thursday, December 14th from
11 AM to 1 PM and the theme will be "A Victorian Christmas" hosted by Sue Dowling. Feel free to attend in your best Victorian garb or your comfortable 2017 clothes. There will be a sign up sheet in the parish hall.
Congratulations and God's Blessings
to Ashley Michele Seigel, Cole Thomas Pettit, Sebastian Lloyd Tobias, Tabitha Lee Tobias, Jennette Marie Ziemba, Nicholas Lawrence Schmidt, Emma Ruth Cleffi, and Jack William Cleffi who were Confirmed on October 29 at the Church of the Advent in Cape May.
Heartfelt Thanks for your generous support of
St. Mary's Church!

I hope you all found Joy in giving during our annual pledging campaign. We are still waiting for a few pledge cards to be returned, but, borrowing from our political jargon, "based on early returns," I predict the amount pledged for 2018 will exceed the amount pledged for 2017. Thank you!
Christmas Luncheon
St. Mary's and St. Barnabas annual Christmas Luncheon will be held at the Lobster House in Cape May on Saturday, Dec. 2nd,
at 12 noon. Flounder or Scallops is $25, Chicken $22 and Children's Entree of Hamburger or Chicken Fingers. There is no charge for children under 12.  Please contact Lou Schweickhardt, Hilton Rodriguez or Bill Haines if you plan to attend. Hope to see you there!
Calling all elves!
It's time for us to help those in need of Christmas Joy with our donations of presents for children and families in need through Caring for Kids of Cape May County.  We are asked to provide gifts to 14 families, approximately 60 gifts are requested. We elves had a lot of fun last year cutting out and decorating the ornaments that reveal the requests from the family on the back. Let's do that after the 10 AM service on Sunday, November 26th. That's step one. Ornaments will be placed on the tree in time for the First Sunday of Advent on December 3rd. All gifts should be wrapped, with ornament attached, and placed in the Parish Hall by Sunday, December 17th.
PETER PAN
Two Stars might be born on Friday, November 17th at 7 PM and Saturday,  November 18th at 1 PM at Crest Memorial School,
9100 Pacific Avenue in Wildwood Crest.
Emma Cleffi will star as Peter Pan and Jenna Ziemba as Captain Hook.
Tickets are only $5 for adults and $3 for children, first come, first serve.
