On November 7, 2017, the City of Castle Pines elected Tera Radloff as the community's third mayor in the City's young history. Radloff won the election against fellow City Councilmember, Geoff Blue.
Mayor-Elect Tera Radloff has been a member of City Council since 2010 and has served as Mayor Pro Tem since 2013. Radloff and her husband, Jon, have lived in Castle Pines since 2003. |

Mrs. Radloff will vacate her seat representing Ward 1 on January, 8, 2018, when she is sworn in as Mayor. At that time, City Council will have sixty days to fill the vacancy.
Castle Pines voters also elected five City Council members who will be sworn in January 8. These Council positions were uncontested races, and include:

Melissa Coudeyras: Current Councilmember representing Ward 1; re-elected to a four-year term.

Ben Price: Current Councilmember representing Ward 2; re-elected to a four-year term.

Gregory Fisher: Outgoing City Treasurer; elected to a two-year term representing Ward 2.
- Roger Hudson: First-time candidate elected to a four-year term representing Ward 3.

Tracy Engerman: First-time candidate elected to a two-year term representing Ward 3.

2018 City Budget Overview
As a new year approaches, the City is preparing a new budget for 2018. The budget not only serves as a financial plan, but also as a tool for accountability. The City budget is for a calendar year (January through December) and acts as:

We're Prepared for the Snowy Months Ahead
The City of Castle Pines Public Works department is responsible for snow and ice removal on public streets within the City
.
Our Snow Removal Goals
- Maintain emergency service access to all City streets.
- Plow Major Roadways frequently enough that primary streets are passable at all times. Minor Roadways will be plowed throughout the storm as quickly as conditions allow.
City staff and plow operators begin planning far in advance of the first snowfall. When snow is predicted, snow removal personnel report for duty and are assigned designated snow routes.
Every snow event is different and we regularly make adjustments to our snow removal operations based on the changing weather conditions in order to ensure the City's 36 miles of roadways and 127 cul-de-sacs are properly maintained.

CodeRED Testing on November 20
The Douglas County Emergency Telephone Service Authority will be testing the CodeRED emergency notification system on November 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. The purpose of this test is to validate the telephone numbers in the Douglas County emergency notification database. There is no need for action if you receive the call.

Meet Your New Planning/Zoning Commissioner
What does the Planning Commission do? T
he commission deliberates and makes recommendations to the City Council on land-use applications, proposed planning documents, and regulations.
The newest addition to the Planning Commission is Dick Lichtenheld! Here's more about him:
How long have you lived in Castle Pines?
We moved into our new home 21 years ago in 1996.
What's your favorite part about living in Castle Pines?
We are surrounded by large expanses of open space to the north and west and separated from big city roof tops and sprawl.
What are you most looking forward to as a member of the Commission?
Interaction with other members of the commission, staff, city officials and developers/builders and their proposals.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Family, volunteering and mountains occupy our free time.
- Family: We have 12 great-grand kids, with 3 more on the way by years' end.
- Volunteering: Volunteering and contributing as my wife and I have done here in Castle Pines, at our church and in the political arena. Note: I was the first City Official in CPN (City Clerk) and conducted our first election for officers and council members in March 2008.
- Mountains: We love the mountains and recently rebuilt our new cabin to allow us to spend more time in the hills. Our cabin is in Pinecliffe on the way to Eldora Ski Area and Rocky Mountain National Park.

Coyote Encounters are on the Rise...Be SMART
If wildlife gets too close to you, remember to be
SMART:
- Stop! Don't run. If you run, the animal may be more inclined to chase you.
- Make yourself look big! Look as big as you can so the animal knows that you are too tough to mess with.
- Announce firmly "Leave me alone!" This lets animals know you are a person and it lets people around you know that you may be in trouble.
- Retreat! Back away from the animal slowly.
- Tell someone! Notify the Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) Northeast Region Service Center immediately.

Coyote Incident Report.

Elk Ridge Bathroom Closure
As of November 9, the bathrooms at Elk Ridge Park are now closed for the rest of the season. Two porta-potties will be available for use during the winter months

Upcoming Community Events
An Evening with John Fielder in Castle Pines
Mr. Fielder is excited to present an all-new slide show,
Holiday 2017- A Colorado Winter, derived from his new book of the same title. You just might feel the need to wear your parka while viewing over 200 of John's most spectacular winter photographs! Beautiful music has been carefully selected to marry with the world of white.
The event is free, but registration is required at
www.castlepinesarts.org. If you do not have a reservation for the show, plan to do your holiday shopping anyway; Fielder merchandise may be purchased without registration. The event is on December 1 at 7:00 p.m.
Coffee with a Cop
Join Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office December 6 at Starbucks (506 Castle Pines Pkwy.) from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. or 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. for Coffee with a Cop. Enjoy a cup of coffee and chat with local law enforcement.
