St. Johns County Prepares for 2017 Hurricane Season 
To prepare for the 2017 Hurricane Season, St. Johns County recently hosted an annual hurricane exercise at the Emergency Operations Center. County staff and partner agencies participated in an immersive hurricane simulation to better prepare for actual emergencies within our area. Special thanks to the City of St. Augustine, the Town of Hastings, St. Johns County Fire Rescue, St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, the Florida Department of Health, and all other participating agencies for their help in making this event a success.

Residents are encouraged to review their homeowners insurance policies to determine what is covered in the event of another major storm. Please visit www.sjcemergencymanagement.org to find more information on hurricane and disaster preparedness, including evacuation zones, shelters, and signing up for Code Red. St. Johns County Discontinues Re-entry Tag Program 
To expedite residential and business re-entry in the event of an emergency, St. Johns County has discontinued the Re-entry Tag Program. Evacuated residents and business owners east of the Intracoastal Waterway now only need to provide proof of address with a driver license, state-issued identification card, or another form of identification such as a utility bill or lease agreement. Re-entry tags are no longer issued, nor will they be required for re-entry into impacted neighborhoods. For more information, please call St. Johns County Emergency Management at 904.824.5550.
St. Johns County Emergency Management Director Receives Governor's Award
St. Johns County Emergency Management Director Linda Stoughton received the "Governor's Award" at the Florida Governor's Hurricane Conference on May 18, 2017 in Palm Beach. Ms. Stoughton was recognized for her dedicated service to Emergency Management and capable response prior to, during, and after Hurricane Matthew. She was also named "2017 Emergency Manager of the Year" by the Florida Emergency Preparedness Association in February. The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners would like to congratulate Ms. Stoughton for her achievements, and thank her and the Emergency Management Division for their hard work and dedication to the residents of St. Johns County.
Representative Cyndi Stevenson Hosts Free Hurricane Insurance Workshop
State Representative Cyndi Stevenson is hosting a free hurricane-related insurance workshop at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21 at the St. Johns County Administration Building, 500 San Sebastian View. Residents are invited to bring copies of current insurance policies and review them with Florida Department of Finance staff for adequate coverage in the event of a major weather event. Volunteer Opportunities with St. Johns County Boards and Committees 
The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners provides residents who have an interest in participating in their local government with a variety of board and commission opportunities. Depending on the board or commission, the volunteer positions consider and make recommendations regarding a myriad of topics including planning and zoning issues, development projects, the library, parks and recreation facilities and programs, and arts, culture, and tourism matters. St. Johns County Main Library and St. Augustine Amphitheatre Recognized at Florida Library Association Award Ceremony
The St. Johns County Main Library and the St. Augustine Amphitheatre recently received awards at the Florida Library Association Annual Conference, an event that recognizes contributions to libraries, library service, and the quality of life of Florida residents. The St. Johns County Main Library received the "Libraries Mean Business" Award for services and support to citizens and businesses impacted by Hurricane Matthew, and the St. Augustine Amphitheatre received the FLA Media/Business Partner Award for their continued support and partnership with the Library System. Florida Department of Health in St. Johns County Receives 2017 Governor's Sterling Sustained Performance Excellence Award
The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners would like to congratulate the Florida Department of Health in St. Johns County (DOH-St. Johns) for receiving the prestigious Governor's Sterling Award. The Governor's Sterling Award is the highest award a private or public organization can receive for performance excellence in Florida. The Department is a two-time recipient of the Governor's Sterling Award (2009, 2015), and two-time recipient of Governor's Sterling Sustained Excellence Award (2011, 2017). St. Johns County Offers Free Shuttle Service during Independence Day and Labor Day Holiday Weekends
St. Johns County is offering a free shuttle service to Mickler's Beachfront Park and the St. Johns County Ocean and Fishing Pier from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the following weekends this summer:
 
Independence Day: July 1 - 4
Labor Day: September 2 - 4
 
The Mickler's Beachfront Park shuttle will transport beach visitors between Cornerstone Park, 1046 A1A North, and Mickler's Beachfront Park, which provides direct access to the beach. The Pier shuttle will transport beach visitors between St. Augustine Beach City Hall, 2200 A1A South, and the Pier parking lot, which provides direct access to Pier amenities and the beach. The shuttles will run every 20 minutes with the final shuttles departing at 4 p.m.
 
Service updates will be provided via the St. Johns County Beaches mobile app (available for Apple and Android devices), Twitter feed, and Facebook page. St. Johns County and the Tourist Development Council provide the Reach the Beach shuttles to give St. Johns County residents and visitors a more safe and convenient beach experience. St. Johns County Launches "Reach the Beach" Mobile App 
St. Johns County recently launched a "Reach the Beach" mobile app, which provides convenient information to help residents and visitors spend less time in the car and more time on the beach. The app provides quick access to current beach driving conditions, beach access locations, available amenities and facilities, lifeguard information, and emergency contacts. Apple and Android users can download the app for free by searching "St. Johns County Beaches" in the App Store or Google Play. Sunshine Bus Company Expands Service in Hastings  
To better serve residents in Hastings and Flagler Estates, the Sunshine Bus Company has added the Hastings Circulator route. This will expand service throughout the area and make a connection with Putnam Transit at Eastgate Square Plaza on US 17. St. Johns County Hosts Summer Fish Camp 
fishing-pole-handles.jpg St. Johns County is partnering with the Florida Wildlife Commission to host a freshwater fish camp for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. July 24 through 28 at Trout Creek Park, 6795 Collier Road. Campers will learn safe boat-handling skills, types of freshwater fish and their habitats, the proper tackle to use in freshwater, and how to safely clean fish. The program is limited to 20 campers and registration is first-come, first-serve. Registration is $170 and includes a rod and reel, tackle box, and tackle. St. Johns County Public Libraries Host Tenth Annual Nature Detective Bee Workshops

St. Johns County Public Libraries are hosting free, interactive, and science-based Nature Detective workshops for children ages 6 through 12 throughout the summer. This year, participants will have the opportunity to learn about bees through hands-on activities, take-home materials, and books that can be checked out from the libraries. The St. Johns County Beekeepers Association will also bring a contained live hive of bees to every workshop to help study these important pollinators. The workshops will be held at the following locations:
 
* Bartram Trail Branch, 904.827.6960 - June 14 / 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m.
* Hastings Branch, 904.827.6970 - June 24 / 11 a.m., 12 p.m.
* Ponte Vedra Branch, 904.827.6950 - July 8 / 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m.

* Anastasia Island Branch, 904.209.3730 - July 19 / 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m.
* Main Library, 904.827.6940 - July 22 / 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

Nature Detective workshops are sponsored and supported by the Garden Club of St. Augustine and the Friends of the Library organizations of each branch library. St. Johns County Bookmobile Adds New Summer Stops
The St. Johns County Bookmobile is making additional stops this summer to provide adults and youth more opportunities to get a library card and check out books, movies, audiobooks, and other media. The bookmobile will make scheduled stops at the following locations:
 
Publix at Nocatee Town Center, 120 Marketside Ave, Ponte Vedra
Tuesdays from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. / Thursdays from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m.
 
Publix at 210 West, 2845 CR210 W, St. Johns
Thursdays from 12:45 - 2:15 p.m.
 
Publix at Pacetti Road, 84 Tuscan Way, St. Augustine
Fridays from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.

St. Johns County Holiday Hours
Independence Day
All departments of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, St. Johns County Administrative offices, library branches, and the Pet Center will be closed Tuesday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. All offices and branches will resume standard business hours on Wednesday, July 5.
 
Garbage, recycling, and yard debris collection schedules will not be delayed. The Tillman Ridge and Stratton Road solid waste scale houses will remain open on the holiday during standard business hours.
 
Labor Day
All departments of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, St. Johns County Administrative offices, library branches, and the Pet Center will be closed Monday, September 4 in observance of Labor Day. All offices and branches will resume standard business hours on Tuesday, September 5.
 
Garbage, recycling, and yard debris collection schedules will not be delayed. The Stratton Road and Tillman Ridge solid waste scale houses will remain open on the holiday during standard business hours.
