On October 26th more than 250 industry colleagues attended AGC's bi-annual Build New England Awards, honoring nine projects that demonstrated Building Excellence through collaboration.

Beacon Hill Advocacy: AGC MA at Work for You   

AGC MA Joins with Industry Allies on SJC Amicus

AGC MA joined five other allied construction organizations in filing an amicus brief to the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts (SJC) this month to voice industry opposition to a lower court ruling adverse to the construction industry. The lower court ruling turned on an obscure decision from 1906, which resulted in a contractor forfeiting $14 million in contract balance and claims.

 
AGC MA Assists Mass. School Building Authority with Economic Data

On November 13, AGC MA facilitated a conference call between the Mass. School Building Authority (MSBA) and AGC of America Chief Economist Ken Simonson to discuss national and local school construction cost trends. MSBA is seeking a deeper understanding of the factors behind recent, unexpected cost escalations on their school building projects. The spikes transcend Chapter 149 and 149A delivery.

AGC MA Opposes Bills Mandating Daily Posting of Names of all Workers on all Private Jobsites

On November 7, an AGC MA delegation met with the House Ways & Means General Counsel to express its strong opposition to Senate Bill 1019 and House Bill 1005 "An Act Relative to Transparency in Employee Benefits Reporting in Private Construction "

AGC MA Hosts Mass. Construction Industry Summit

On November 6, AGC hosted a meeting of the executive directors and legislative staff of 15 largest allied employer trade associations representing commercial design and construction firms in Massachusetts at the AGC office. This was the first such meeting in over 10 years. 

AGC MA Meets With Attorney General's Office
 
On November 15, AGC's Brendan Carter joined colleagues from allied trade groups for a quarterly construction employers' associations meeting with Staff and Attorneys at the Office of the
Attorney General. Agenda items include the Wage Theft legislation, AG Wage & Hour enforcement
actions, current Bid Protest issues, and a general discussion on other legislative bills impacting the construction industry.

AGC MA Hosts "Conversations With...UMBA"

On November 3, Joe Naughton, Director of Capital Projects and Charlie Paradie, Director of Pre-Construction Planning for the UMass Building Authority joined 30 attendees to discuss a myriad of topics related to UMBA's ambitions $3 Billion growth plan.
