MCS
Heroes of the Week

Jennifer Kish

Congratulations to this week's Heroes Andrew Rahm and Jennifer Kish! We hope you enjoy your up-close parking spot.

A Note to Andrew Rahm, Digital Learning Coach:
"You have been doing an amazing job with all things tech! We have felt very well-supported by you, which has empowered us to try new things in the classroom wtih technology. Also, your training for the 6th graders has been a huge blessing! They were well-trained and prepared before iPads even made it in the class and we still see the impact of your training each week. If a student has a problem with their iPad or a lesson using technology has an issue, you can always be counted on to save the day!"

A Note to Jennifer Kish, Fourth Grade Teacher:
"Jennifer Kish - Thank you for working so hard with last year's fourth graders! I was wow'd by my students' MAP scores, and I can tell you put so much effort into investing in these kids' lives and academics. You are fantastic and we appreciate you!"

"Jen - you are such a caring teacher and the amount of dedication you put into your craft is always noticed. I'm so glad to be a part of the 4th grade team and just wanted you to know that you are an amazing teacher. P.S. Go to sleep early for once!"
GodBlessVeterans
God Bless MCS Veterans and Grandparents

MCS welcomed over 150 Grandparents, Veterans, and Alumni to our 16th annual Veterans Day Salute and breakfast. MCS students were inspired by this year's special guest speakers Addie and Greg Zinone (pictured middle), founders of Joint Forces Initiative (JFI). We were blessed to present Addie and Greg with a check for Joint Forces Initiative in the amount of $1,830 from the proceeds of this week's pancake breakfast, plus an additional $3,500 as a contribution in honor of the Ben Friedman Leadership Award! To learn more about how JFI serves Veterans, please view the program below or visit their website at: www.jointforcesinitiative.org Addie Zinone served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 2002-2016.

Our Red, White, and Blue breakfast was a wonderful setting to honor veteran guests with self-introductions, including a special invidual hosted by MCS Dad Dwight Hanson: Lauren Bruner (pictured middle row right), a WWII Veteran who survived the attack on USS Arizona.

A Big THANK YOU to our awesome PTF Volunteers (pictured above) for hosting a lovely breakfast reception - w e appreciate you!

4th Grade Studying California Missions
The 4th graders are studying California missions, and visited Mission San Juan Capistrano. We learned about the history of the mission, and the way of life during that time period. To end our visit, the students worked cooperatively to make a rope.
unityFamily CommUNITY Connection Newsletter

This year, our newsletters will align with our service focus for the month. We hope that these newsletters will not only provide your families with the logistical details of the service opportunities being offered, but also with a resource that will allow you to dive a bit deeper into conversation (around your tables, in the car, etc.) about the area of focus. It will also provide an introduction to the organization we are partnering with in this area.

In this month's newsletter you will see that our monthly focus for both November & December is on "local families in need" and we are thrilled to partner with Project Giving Light, a local organization determined to bring light to homeless children's dark world. We will be partnering with Project Giving Light by hosting a Fall Food Drive in November and a Christmas Toy Drive in December.

The 2017-18 Difference Maker service initiatives are absolutely optional. We recognize many of our families are actively involved in serving in this capacity within their local churches. We hope that your family will be blessed to partner with us, and look forward to unveiling the other incredible opportunities the Lord has begun to prepare for us over the upcoming months.

As always, God says it better than we can, so I will leave you with this encouragement from Isaiah 58:10:  "Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as the noonday sun."

Please feel free to contact me at [email protected]  if you have any questions.

Blessings,
Ali Bray

Thank you to all MCS families and friends who attended the Pancake Breakfast this past Wednesday morning! Your support helped make this one of our most successful Pancake Breakfasts in our 8 year history of the event. A special thank you goes to the beloved moms who worked feverishly in the kitchen whipping up pancake batter, furiously cooking bacon, and cleaning a kitchen that had been very well used throughout the morning! Due to your generosity and their gift of service, we are pleased to share that the total amount raised on Wednesday morning is $1,830!

All proceeds were donated this morning to Joint Forces Initiative, an incredible organization that supports both current servicemen and women and Veterans. What an honor to partner with an organization which is making an incredible difference in the lives of those who have and are sacrificing for our freedom!

Our second visit to Shalimar is here!! If you wanted to come last month, but weren't able to, come join us on November 17th!! If you came last time and  have been waiting for the next visit, it's here! Last visit, 33 MCS students shared the love of Jesus, learned from (and simply got to know) our neighbors just 10 miles away on Shalimar Drive in Costa Mesa. This upcoming visit, we hope to continue to deepen friendships and join in the work that God has been doing there. We'll connect over activities, Bible studies, games, and more! We will meet just outside the MCS front office after school on Friday to head over to Shalimar at 3:15pm. We'll be back at MCS at approximately 5:00 p.m. We utilize parent drivers, so if you are available to drive, please indicate how many students you can take on the permission slip.

We hope your child is able to take part in the amazing work God is doing through the MCS/Shalimar partnership!

8th Grade Dedications Due Monday, November 13th

Hello MCS 8th grade parents!

I hope that your child's 8th grade year has been off to a great start - for both YOU and THEM! All of their teachers have been covering your children and your entire family in prayer as you all journey through this eventful year!

The reason that we are reaching out is in regards to your child's 8th grade yearbook dedication. As you most likely already know, MCS always honors our 8th graders by providing them with additional space in the yearbook to help them remember their graduating year. These pages are filled with their individual class photos, a written dedication/affirmation from the student's parents and/or guardians, and four additional photos of each individual student, also provided by the parents and/or guardians.

Please see the attached document that will provided you with all the additional and necessary details in regards to length of dedication, types of photos to send in, and the dedication billing process. The due date for all 8th grade dedications/affirmations and the additional photos is Monday, November 13th, 2017.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any additional questions that are not answered in the attached document. We are so blessed to be able to help play a part in creating this year's yearbook and we thank you for your assistance in the creation process. We hope this book is one your children will want to keep for years to come!

In Him,

Sam Brooks [email protected]
and Katie Niles [email protected]
