Top 5: What are You Thankful for?
With Thanksgiving next week, we asked what you're thankful for -- and you didn't hesitate to share your attitude of gratitude with us! The Top 5 responses are below, and congratulations to our giveaway prize winner, Lauren McClanahan in Family and Community Engagement. Have a fun and safe Thanksgiving break!

5. " I am thankful for school secretaries with great senses of humor, because there are those days when it's great to have someone who can make you smile." -- Charles Wiesbrook, Teller Elementary

4. " I have deep gratitude for the Nursing Services team that truly embodies the DPS Shared Core Values in their day-to-day practice." -- Christy Haas-Howard, Nursing and Student Health Services

3. " I'm thankful for growing up in DPS and playing sports for John F. Kennedy High School, then being able to teach and coach alongside my former coaches and learn the right way to approach the profession.  The model they set for me has paved the path for me to be successful, and I would love to be able to do that for our young teachers and coaches." -- John Andrew, Athletics

2. " I am thankful for my massive and tight-knit, wild and crazy, loud and hilarious, complicated and fun family, and for whatever adventures this holiday season will bring for us!" -- April Joy Freudenberg, Student Equity and Opportunity

1. "I'm thankful for everyone in this picture (right) who support our students and families. This photo was taken after the grand opening of the Center for Family Opportunity at McGlone Academy. Most of them had been running around giving tours, serving food, dressing up as The Cat in the Hat or leading activities with kids for hours after working a full day in their schools. I am thankful for a team that pulls together to make things happen for kids; it's what gets me up every day." -- Lauren McClanahan, Family and Community Engagement
Share a List of Holiday Resources for Families and Kids
This holiday season, we're compiling a list of free holiday meals, gift and clothing giveaways, food assistance organizations and child care resources for our families and kids who may need them. We know this is valuable information for our communities this time of year, so please share this holiday resource page with families and other educators.

Do you know an organization that provides one or more of these services that isn't on the list? If so, email [email protected] and provide an attachment or a link to more information so we can share it with families. Happy holidays!

Living Our DPS Honoree

Desiree LeClair
Pathways Data Analyst
Collaboration

"Desiree has always been an amazing support to schools, but this year she has truly lived the Shared Core Value of Collaboration with our pathway students and schools. Many students who come into the pathway family have unique and complicated transcripts and credits.  Desiree goes above and beyond to ensure that pathway counselors and school leaders understand the transcripts.

Regardless of where students come from or the language their transcript is originally in (French, Vietnamese or Spanish), Desiree can read and make sense of them all. As a result, we can quickly get students scheduled in the correct courses so they can continue their journey toward graduation. I can't tell you the relief our students feel when we are able to say we have someone who can make sense of the transcript and credit situations they face. She is absolutely amazing!"
