Cambodian Girls Shine

International Day of the Girl is October 11th. There are 1.1 billion girls in the world and many live in dire conditions. Watching our Cambodian girls in classes, library, computer center or playing sports we feel hopeful and proud. They are taking full advantage of CCDO offerings and they are on average showing more dedication and better results than boys. To be fair, while our girls are expected to shoulder a larger share of domestic work and sibling care on top of helping in the fields, the boys are under bigger pressure to drop out of school before even reaching high school and find work to support their families.

We thank our donors who support education as a way out of poverty for all our children!

Flooding in Siem Reap
With school still on vacation the floods did not affect our students, but our staff had to battle the rising waters at our office.

GCC Scholarships Awarded
After a careful process of record checking and interviews 4 of our students were chosen for scholarships by our wonderful partner Global Children Cambodia. This financial support with assure that they will be able to continue their education at University. Congratulations to LIV Savei, HOY Saron, MIET Suom and OEURN Chantrea.
A special shout out to KHOEUN Kamsot, who got a scholarship from National Institute of Social Affairs (NISA) in Phnom Penh to major in Social Affairs. He got 4 years 100% scholarship and he is now in Phnom Penh with his older brother, who is studying Management.

Every Day is Handwashing Day
International Handwashing Day is celebrated on October 15 but CCDO promotes and teaches good hygiene every day starting with our youngest at the preschool level. Besides correct hand washing we also teach good oral hygiene after breakfast. Each student has his or her own toothbrush in special holders on the wall of their classroom, replaced every six months.

CCDO Global Ambassadors
CCDO Ambassadors are raising funds around the world. Signe Christensen from Auckland, New Zealand, and her Altrusa group raised $459 through film screening. They slated the funds for educational and literacy supplies.
“I belong to an international women's community group called Altrusa, present in 13 countries around the world. Our NZ Altrusa group and our dedicated Altrusans are always looking for projects that incorporate literacy and mothers and children. It has been an honor to raise funds for books for CCDO.”
Our student ambassadors from Windermere Ranch Middle School in San Ramon, California have worked hard to raise funds this year. The 6th graders held bake sales and sold various items in February thru March. They raised an impressive amount of $640 towards our children's health checkups.

Josh Grimm, CCDO Ambassador, is hosting an event in New York City in November.
He has been raising funds for Cambodia for a few years and is excited to team up with CCDO. All funds raised will go to CCDO to build wells, feed children breakfast and educate children by providing English Classes, Sports, Library and Computer lessons. Please give generously to support Josh and his passion to help others.
Any amount is gratefully accepted, $50 feeds a child for a month, $150 educates a child for a year, $300 builds a water well for a family. All funds tax deductible. Click here to donate.
