What's Happening this Week at the Library...

Fun with Math & Crazy 8s
We "wrapped up" another fun 8 week session of our Crazy 8's Math Club on Tuesday with the "Toilet Paper Olympics."
Did you know that each square is 4" long? And that 3 squares equal one foot? We converted toilet paper squares into measuring units. We measured our broad jump scores, relay races (using up all 264 squares!), and invented a new Olympic event...The Mummy Wrap.

Crazy 8's is an over-the-top math club designed to get kids fired up about math! Every week kids get to build stuff, get physical, experiment, and have fun with math. All this while using STEAM concepts!
A new session for children in grades K-2 will begin in February.

Join us on a fun-filled adventure that is truly out of this world! On a special mission, Astronaut Nick Eastman, is sucked into a time-warp and lands millions of years in Earth's dinosaur-riddled past. Snatched as a pterodactyl snack, Nick escapes only to be warped into a bizarre future with bizarre creatures.
This heart-pounding marionette extravaganza probes many unexplored and intriguing dimensions of puppetry. See if our time travelers decode the gravity of their situation and save the Earth in the Nick of Time.
Admission is FREE for children and $10 for adults.
No advance tickets necessary.

Snapology Lego Holiday Workshop
Saturday, Dec. 16th from 1:30-3pm
For Ages 5-11
Enjoy the magic of the holidays with LEGOS! In this 1 ½ hour workshop, kids will build a LEGO Holiday City, complete with presents, shops, toys and more. Each child will build their own LEGO ornament to take home.

Looking for other folks to speak Spanish with? Come as you are to the youth area of the library to do some #AdultinginSpanish with Lisa-Marie.

Choosing Your Retirement Path

Join New Windsor-based New York Life Financial Services Professional, Dr. Ardal Powell, as he presents a talk on "Choosing Your Retirement Path."
Learn about the financial concerns one may face in retirement and possible solutions. Topics covered will include Optimizing your investment portfolio, Minimizing income taxes, and Planning for extended periods of care not covered by medical insurance.

Daytime Book Club

Join us the second Tuesday of each month for the Helen Savoit Daytime Book Club. This month, we are discussing the novel "The Round House" by Louise Erdrich. Read the book and then join us for a lively conversation. New members always welcome.
Obtain a copy of this novel on your own. Copies are available in the Mid-Hudson Library System.

Heart Smart: Know Your Score
Tuesday, Dec. 12th, 6-7:30pm
Dr. John Tighe, Medical Director of the SLCH Cardiovascular Institute, will provide free education about coronary calcium scoring, which can aid in the detection of heart disease and allow for earlier intervention when preventative therapies have the largest impact.

Bakeology 101

Learn to bake like a pro with the help of local baker and educator, Dana Devine O'Malley. Each month we'll be baking up a homemade treat. For December we'll be making decorating sugar cookies. There are a few spots still open in our December class. Register by emailing [email protected].

Art & Zine Club
Friday, December 15th, 3:30-5pm
Calling all artists, writers, photographers and cartoonists. Meet up with other Beacon area creative teens to draw and makes some zines. What's a Zine? Zines are DIY self published art books and magazines. Different types of zines and art making techniques are introduced each month. Artists can work independently or collaboratively. This month we'll experiment with printmaking and designing and carving own rubber stamps.
