CALC welcomes new Back to Back Community Organizer: Shanalea Forrest
CALC Welcomes  New Community Organizer for Back to Back Program:
Shanalea Forrest

Shanalea at a rally in South Carolina
Activism started for Shanalea in her early teenage years when she joined her sister in participating in a protest to promote the freedom of political prisoner, Leonard Peltier. Although she has always been one to speak up against injustice and bigotry of any form, from that moment on, the flame and passion for activism was ignited and has carried forth in all that she does.

Shanalea moved to Oregon in 2010 with her family from their home state of Minnesota. After arriving in Eugene, she began to organize with Occupy Eugene. She has since worked with and co-founded various social justice organizations and nonprofits. She has experience in Oregon and South Carolina organizing and forming coalitions to promote, educate, and mobilize for social, racial, and economic justice. Whether Shanalea is working behind the scenes or on the front line, she is a source of empowerment and seeks to bring people together in solidarity.

Shanalea and her son
A single mother of a third grade child, Shanalea understands the difficulty of making ends meet. She is a part of the LGBTQ and Muslim communities in addition to being a strong ally to people of color, immigrants, people who are homeless, and others affected by marginalization and oppression.

We are so excited to welcome Shanalea to the CALC team! CALC's Back to Back program works to increase safety and respect in our community. The primary tools used to oppose bigotry and discrimination on all fronts are education, exposure, and building strong community relationships. To get involved with Back to Back, contact Shanalea at [email protected] or (541) 485-1755 x 206.

"One of my goals as organizer of the Back to Back program is to promote stronger relationships between community allies. We need to work with greater solidarity in educating, mobilizing, and combating all the forms of bigotry going on in Lane county.- Shanalea Forrest
