 AEA's 2016-17 Pilot's Guide to Avionics Equipped with ADS-B Content and will Debut at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh
Published annually by the Aircraft Electronics Association, the 2016-17 edition of the Pilot's Guide to Avionics will be unveiled with free distribution at the Experimental Aircraft Association's AirVenture Oshkosh in Wisconsin, July 25-31. AEA staff members will distribute thousands of free copies to pilots and aircraft owners at the AEA's AirVenture booth, No. 2035/2036 in Hangar B at Wittman Regional Airport.
This year marks the 14th annual edition of the Pilot's Guide to Avionics, a consumer's directory loaded with educational articles, timely information and data about the wonderful world of avionics technologies. The publication helps pilots and aircraft owners make better buying decisions and locate nearly 1,300 AEA member companies in more than 40 countries, including government-certified repair stations specializing in maintenance, repair and installation of avionics and electronic systems in general aviation aircraft. It also includes the manufacturers and distributors of these products, as well as technical schools and universities, engineers and consultants for the industry. Commentary: Putting the Part 23 Rewrite in Perspective
John Uczekaj, president and CEO of Aspen Avionics, opined in this month's Avionics News about the Part 23 rewrite. According to Uczekaj, "
What I am most excited about is that the Part 23 rewrite is an FAA-led, industry-wide effort to streamline the entire certification process for everything that goes in an aircraft. When it's all done, I feel the Part 23 rewrite will unlock the next wave of truly innovative avionics.
For too long, our industry, for one reason or another, but mainly due to the constraints of certified avionics, has been a "me-too" business. The Part 23 rewrite will change all that. It will encourage companies to get innovative and introduce products that offer increased capabilities, improved flight safety, and, of particular importance to our company, unleash our ability to take a more creative approach to introducing the next great thing that will help attract new people into the world of private aviation -- all of which will pay huge dividends for pilots and avionics dealers while improving the overall safety of flying

New FAA Course -- Applying Systems Safety Principles to Product Certification: Aug. 16-18
The intent of this three-day course is to focus on how systems engineers should apply concepts of system safety principles to the products they will certify. It will expand the approach systems engineers can take to build safety into the products they certify in the context of applying the rules and considering other safety-related factors that supplement FAA regulations. VECTOR AEROSPACE
successfully completed its first full engine test on the Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-140 turboprop at its facility in South Africa. In addition, the company completed the first of three 12-year inspections for the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department's fleet of Airbus Helicopters AS350 B3 AStars.
GULFSTREAM AEROSPACE CORP. announced that a full-scale cabin of the Gulfstream G600 is traveling around the U.S. this summer to give customers an opportunity to step on board and experience firsthand the G500 and G600. Gulfstream also announced that its Savannah Completions Center has incorporated 3-D projection technology into the process of designing and executing aircraft paint schemes, resulting in increased flexibility and enhanced design quality. The company's super mid-sized Gulfstream G280 set a speed record between Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Luton, England, completing the flight in seven hours.
NAVWORX announced a temporary price reduction on its ADS600-B, a certified UAT providing ADS-B Out and In that meets the requirements of the FAA's mandate for ADS-B equipage. The ADS600-B is available for $1,799.00 with the $200 price reduction effective immediately.
DUNCAN AVIATION will play host to a free NextGen seminar on July 13 in Bloomington, Minnesota, at the Hilton Mall of America. The company also released its new Certification Straight Talk Book that may be downloaded for free at Duncan's website. Duncan also is partnering with ACSS to participate in the launch of the NXT-700 transponder and the development of the AML STC.
ASTRONICS CORP. announced the newest EMPOWER in-seat power system from wholly-owned subsidiary Astronics Advanced Electronic Systems has been selected by three major airlines in Asia for installations scheduled through the 2017 to 2021 timeframe. In addition, Astronics introduced the X1+HR (high resolution) Enhanced Vision System for experimental and homebuilt aircraft. Also, Astronics Advanced Electronic Systems was selected by Seattle Business magazine as one of Washington's 100 Best Companies to Work For, marking the 10th consecutive year that Astronics AES has earned this recognition.
AVIATION SPECIALTIES UNLIMITED obtained an FAA aviation safety inspector training contract to provide initial and recurrent training to ASIs beginning July 23.
AVMAX recently purchased one Dash 8-106 msn 304 from Canadian North Inc. This -106 model will be added to Avmax's leasing portfolio of Dash 8 and CRJ offered for lease worldwide. Avmax also purchased five CRJ-200LRs msn 7130, 7165, 7200, 7378, 7384 and four spare CF34-3B1 engines from Bombardier Capital Inc. These aircraft were formerly operated by UTair, Russia.
JETSUPPORT BV received Cayman Islands maintenance station authorization.
CONSTANT AVIATION was named one of the top five highest-performing dealers with
GOGO BUSINESS AVIATION for the second year in a row. The company also said it will increase its services to meet the needs during the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.
THOMAS GLOBAL SYSTEMS
welcomed the Hon. Anthony Roberts, New South Wales Minister for Industry, Resources and Energy, to its Sydney Headquarters. Minister Roberts visited the company's new Electronic and Embedded Systems Innovation Hub to announce the appointment of the New South Wales Defence Advocate, Air Vice Marshal (RTD) John Harvey AM.
ROCKWELL COLLINS was selected by China-based Shenzhen Airlines to provide its full suite of advanced avionics and PAVES Broadcast overhead In-Flight Entertainment on 44 new airplanes.
VIH AEROSPACE delivered an Airbus EC130B4 that required an annual inspection in addition to a 150-hour inspection, to a prominent, private customer in Western Canada.
APPAREO announced that its Stratus ESG transponder received TSO authorization from the FAA.
SEND SOLUTIONS received STC approval for the installation of the Airtext passenger Iridium Testing Systems on Textron Aviation Inc. Cessna 750 (Citation X).
