Commentary: Putting the Part 23 Rewrite in Perspective
John Uczekaj, president and CEO of Aspen Avionics, opined in this month's Avionics News about the Part 23 rewrite. According to Uczekaj, " What I am most excited about is that the Part 23 rewrite is an FAA-led, industry-wide effort to streamline the entire certification process for everything that goes in an aircraft. When it's all done, I feel the Part 23 rewrite will unlock the next wave of truly innovative avionics.  For too long, our industry, for one reason or another, but mainly due to the constraints of certified avionics, has been a "me-too" business. The Part 23 rewrite will change all that. It will encourage companies to get innovative and introduce products that offer increased capabilities, improved flight safety, and, of particular importance to our company, unleash our ability to take a more creative approach to introducing the next great thing that will help attract new people into the world of private aviation -- all of which will pay huge dividends for pilots and avionics dealers while improving the overall safety of flying ."   More...
