November 5, 2015

The school year is well underway, and teachers in Louisiana are all awaiting the arrival of a very important date. No, not the start of Christmas break, the release of PARCC results. My name is Meredith Starks, and I teach third grade at Bellaire Elementary in Bossier Parish. Additionally, I have had the honor to serve as a Teacher Leader Advisor for three years.

Like many teachers in Louisiana, I am eagerly awaiting the PARCC student reports from the 2014-2015 school year. Not only am I excited to see how my students performed last year, but more importantly I am excited to have a critical piece of information that my team and I can use to drive our instruction this year. In team meetings, we have been reviewing the PARCC Parent Guide and Parent Conversation Guide for Teachers in order to better prepare ourselves for the release of student reports, and plan to have a PARCC Parent Night where we will give parents an opportunity to have their questions about the test results answered. In addition to these guides, the Department will release a Teachers' Guide to the PARCC Results which walks teachers through how to interpret their student data and recommended adjustments to your instruction based on certain trends.

Teacher Leaders who would like additional support in understanding this data should attend one of the November Teacher Leader Collaboration Events ,  where presenters will walk through the details of these reports in addition to providing updated information about the 2015-2016 assessments. I hope to see you there!
