Testing New Technology for Caregivers
ReServe is proving to be fertile testing grounds for new caregiving technologies.
Albert Browne , Director of Impact Areas for AARP Foundation, joined ReServe's dementia care coaches in June to demonstrate the Amazon Echo and get their feedback on its applications for caregivers of people with  dementia.

The Amazon Echo is a hybrid speaker with voice recognition that can answer certain questions and do certain tasks.  AARP is conducting research to develop applications to support caregivers.

ReServist Judy Birch (see photo) is participating in the first phase of this research project and will share her observations with AARP and the Dementia Care team in late July.

California Here We Come!
ReServe is gaining a foothold on the West Coast through expansion of PrepNOW!,
a professional development program for foster parents to create a college-going culture within the  home. Fedcap expanded the program to Los Angeles in April and on-boarded three ReServists to begin working with foster care parents this month.

Stephanie Serafin, Director, Child Welfare National Platform, Fedcap, reports that the program is off to a strong start. "To date seven Family Foster Agencies (FFAs) have elected to participate in the first cohort of agencies," she said. "We have experienced nothing but commitment and enthusiasm about PrepNOW! from the LA County partners."

The Benefits of 'Unretirement'
It's official: Working into retirement is good for your physical and mental health. That was the general consensus at the most recent 20016 Age Boom Academy at Columbia University.

Jack Rosenthal, co-founder of ReServe and the Age Boom Academy, shared examples of ReServe's Success Mentors who work with high school juniors and seniors in urban high schools. "It has provided benefits you wouldn't normally expect," said Rosenthal.  "The ReServists establish wonderful relationships with the kids, stay in touch after they get to college and help them stay in college."
