- EMPOWERING OUR FUTURE TRIBAL LEADERS -
Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa

At the CSVANW we are eagerly excited to meet the selected Native youth for the upcoming 5th Annual Native Youth Summit! The event takes place at Hyatt Regency Tamaya. CSVANW accepted 19 Native youth who represent 11 of our Pueblo communities, 7 Native youth representing both of our Apache nations (from Mescalero and Jicarilla), 12 Navajo youth representing different communities across New Mexico and 2 Tohono O'Odham youth from northern New Mexico.

The 5th Annual Native Youth Summit is a four-day, powerful leadership development experience that connects, challenges and cultivates a cohort of Native youth. This summit experience is designed to elevate our Native youth into leadership roles that will transform their lives so that they can transform their tribal communities. We know that they face many challenges in today's world, so at CSVANW we've worked hard to carefully craft a summit experience that builds a supportive and transformative network of Native youth leaders. After the Native Youth Summit, our youth will be inspired to return to their community and create stronger leadership foundations for change.

During the free summit experience, participants will gain the following skills:
  • Leave with tools and resources supporting leadership success and living healthy violent-free lifestyles.
  • Connect, share and create a sense of community with other Native Youth and mentors in the Southwest region.
  • Make pledges and goals for themselves, that aligns with their culture.

"The 2015 Native Youth summit was about learning to have healthy relationships and setting goals for the future. The presentations given were very inspirational." - 2015 NYS Participant

National news!

Tribal Nations across the United States celebrated the recent ruling of the Dollar General v. Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians . On June 12th, 2016, the Supreme Court of the United State's decision was announced! This means tribal courts have jurisdiction to adjudicate civil tort claims and contractual agreement against non-members and non-members entering a consensual relationship with tribes or it's tribal members. CSVANW signed the amicus brief supporting the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians last fall. To read our Media and Program Assistant, Cheyenne Antonio's winter blog on the case,  CLICK HERE!

CSVANW is proud of the partnership that we have with our sister Coalition, NMCADV.

NMCADV is looking to welcome new members! They would like to invite tribal domestic violence programs to join their coalition and network of members. While the NMCADV already collaborates with CSVANW on statewide issues at the coalition level, they also think there is an opportunity for individual programs to connect more closely and work together. All domestic violence service organizations apply as Principal Members. Membership fees are based on your organization's budget and a sliding scale, and fees can also be waived if necessary.

Alisha Chavez, NMCADV Communication and Membership Coordinator can answer any questions you may have, alishac@nmcadv.org or 505-554-6536.
