Celebrating 10 years
As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the SunriseGuide, we want to send a big thank you to everyone who has helped us get here, loyal readers & advertisers, family & friends, business partners & advisors and Maine's incredible entrepreneurship eco-system. Creating the SunriseGuide has been a collaborative process from the start, with many loving hands and hearts contributing to its success. What began as an idea on vacation eleven years ago, has since grown into a central resource for Mainer's looking to support local businesses and find healthy, sustainable solutions for themselves and their families. And we couldn't have done it without the help of many.   Read publisher's note and special thank you to our 10-year partners.

Maine's new PaintCare Program
It's that time of year when home painting projects are in full swing in Maine. As you peruse your existing paint supply and find that some is old or just won't be used, be sure to take advantage of Maine's new paint recycling program. It's free for everyone, regardless of when or where you bought your paint. You can drop off paint at one of nearly 100 permanent paint collection sites throughout the state. Click here to learn more about the PaintCare program and to find a drop-off location near you!

The Natural Resources Council of Maine is celebrating the implementation of this program and they want your help: they'd be grateful if you could snap a photo while you are dropping off your paint and post it to your Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram and be sure to tag #NRCMenvironment #PaintCare.
Maine Harvest Bucks
A new program for those who use SNAP/EBT is being implemented by the Portland Food Co-op, the Belfast Co-op, Blue Hill Co-op, Good Tern Co-op, Rising Tide Community Market, and The Farm Stand. Called Maine Harvest Bucks, the program allows SNAP/EBT participants to receive a $5 bonus voucher to spend on local fruits and veggies for every $10 they spend at the participating markets. Visit maineharvestbucks.org for more information.
Maine Harvest for Hunger Program

When harvesting your garden's bounty this year, consider donating some of your produce to a local food pantry. With 15.1% of Maine households being "food insecure," the Maine Harvest for Hunger program seeks to provide those in need with fresh, locally-grown food. The program is open to all interested gardeners and is coordinated by the UMaine Extension Master Gardener Volunteer program.
