PrayerRevivalHow Prayer Can Spark a Revival
The PCCNA Prayer Commission is passionate about developing prayer partnerships across Spirit-filled, evangelical churches. There's power in united prayer. As God's people come together to seek His face, His hand moves in amazing ways to accomplish His purposes.

During the February 2016 inaugural meeting of the Prayer Commission, Dr. Jon Engstrom shared a powerful testimonial regarding the impact of united prayer among pastors and churches while pastoring in Utah in 1974. Dr. Engstrom is prayer coordinator for the Full Gospel Fellowship of Churches and Ministers and pastor of Christ the Rock Fellowship, Lynnwood, Washington.

Dr. Jon Engstrom
"When I went to pastor in Utah in 1974, there were fewer than a hundred Pentecostal/evangelical churches in Utah at that time, and most of those churches had less than fifty people in attendance on Sunday morning. A group of us pastors eventually began to meet for two hours, one Saturday a month. After a brief time of fellowship and refreshment, we simply prayed for one another. We would usually focus on two or three pastors, praying for them specifically, laying hands on them.

"Within a year and a half, all those churches began to experience revival. Many went to double services; some had to build larger facilities. For about three and a half years the fires of revival burned. We saw major breakthroughs. Most of those churches had not seen conversions among Mormons. Yet we began to see Mormon people coming to the Lord without argument, simply because they saw the demonstration of the power and presence of God. All of us pastors were Spirit-filled or became Spirit-filled. We even had former members from the Mormon church praying with us. (Continued on next column)

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."   Acts 1:8 (NIV)

How Prayer Can Spark a Revival Continued
continuedonnextcolumn"If we can get evangelical/Pentecostal pastors praying together on the state level, praying for one another without prejudice, wanting the blessing of God to rest upon one another, that effort will have a powerful impact. It's very hard to get to that because so many people are concerned about what they are trying to accomplish in their own spheres. Yet, it only took driving an hour or two on a Saturday once a month and getting together for a couple of hours for prayer. The difference we saw as a result of that was amazing."

Recently, powerful moves of God have broken out in West Virginia, Ohio, and North Carolina that are reaching across denominational lines. As leaders and congregations are coming together to partner in prayer, worship, and the Word, God is doing marvelous things. Thousands are coming to Christ because leaders are intentionally partnering in prayer. May it happen more and more in these days of great challenge and opportunity!

" Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!" Psalm 133:1, ESV. - John Maempa
