GivingUSAGiving USA's Trends in Fundraising

Thank you to The Yunker Group and their sponsors for bringing Giving USA to Cincinnati again. It was exciting to learn that 2015 was America's most generous year ever! For nonprofits who did not attend the event, you can see some of the highlights in the infographic below, download a FREE Giving USA Highlights report or browse Giving USA's list of other more extensive reports available for a fee.

Grantseeking2016 State of Grantseeking Report

Additional funding data is available from our partners at Grantstation. Grantstation conducts research on grants applied for and received in addition to trends in grant seeking. They recently released their Spring 2016 report. Some of the highlights:
  • Charitable giving in the United States has surpassed $358 billion annually
  • 93% of respondents who submitted three or more grant applications received at least one award
  • Private foundations continue to grow in importance with 83% of respondents reporting that they received awards from private foundations
  • Organizational collaboration is a way to increase grantseeking success, especially for younger, smaller organizations.
  • Funders (particularly the Federal government) tend to look for proof of organizational sustainability as evidenced by organizational age. 90% of organizations that were at least eleven years old received an award vs. 70% of organizations ten years of age or younger.
You can download the full report from Grantstation TrendTrack.
ScrollingWebLong-Scrolling Websites - Fad or the Future?

Which is better - clicking to a page or scrolling to find content? Are you a long-scroll lover, or a strictly "above the fold" kind of person? The debate rages on, with arguments on both sides. Is there a right answer? Or is it just a matter of personal preference?

Interesting statistic: New York's web analytics company, Chartbeat, measured data from 2 billion visits and found that 66% of user time was spent below the fold, not above!

Some web designers believe long-scrolling pages give the chance to tell a story, include some powerful visuals, and create a more intense, immersive experience. But depending on your content and audience, this may not be the best solution. As you look at your on-line presence, you will want to give consideration to who your audience is and the best way to reach them. ReSource is scheduling 2017 Building Blocks topics and speakers, and will be looking at this and related topics as one of our sessions.
SVPGrant Opportunities with Social Venture Partners

Social Venture Partners Cincinnati  invites area nonprofits to apply for two grant opportunities with one combined application .

Apply to be their next investee
Investees receive a total grant of $60,000 over the course of three years and also receive the strategic contribution of SVP partners' time and expertise. The combined financial and expertise results in an average benefit to the nonprofit of three to five times greater than cash grants alone.
Apply for Fast Pitch 2017
Nonprofits get training in telling effective, inspiring stories and then compete via a 3-minute pitch.

Grant guidelines and the combined application is available on the Social Venture Partners website. Applications are due by Monday, August 15.
SWGiveCampSouthwest Ohio GiveCamp is accepting applications for a weekend of free software development for nonprofits

GiveCamp is a nationwide effort that brings together a community of volunteers to donate their time and talents to build the technical resources and capacity of local non-profit organizations. In its first five years the Southwest Ohio GiveCamp has worked on 64 non-profit software projects. The projects have ranged from simple website rebuilds to iPhone and Android applications. It is estimated that the projects created at Give Camp would typically cost each non-profit between $5,000 and $10,000. The efficiencies the solutions create - often reducing the paperwork and staff time needed to complete processes - means Give Camp creates value beyond the market cost of the projects themselves.

The event this year will be held October 21-23 at the Miami University Voice of America Learning Center in West Chester, Ohio. Additional information can be found at the GiveCamp website

The 2016 Southwest Ohio GiveCamp is now accepting non-profit applications. The initial application is a simple form. Initial applications will be reviewed by a member of their non-profit committee to make sure it is within the scope and mission of the Southwest Ohio GiveCamp. When this review has been completed, you will be notified whether or not you have qualified for the second phase of the application process.
