I hope you and your family enjoyed a wonderful Fourth of July weekend.  If you haven't already, I invite you to visit the U.S. Bishops' Fortnight website for some beautiful prayers to protect and celebrate our gift of liberty.

We have another special opportunity this month to join in prayer for the sacred gift of life at the Summer Mass, Adoration and Rosary for Life on July 16 at Nuestra Se ñora del Pilar. I hope you will join us.

Also in July, please be sure to spread the word about:
Looking ahead, please mark your calendar for three special events in August:
**Also around the corner is the next 40 Days for Life campaign in Dallas.** This year's fall vigil from September 28 to November 6 will be held daily 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. at the South Planned Parenthood abortion facility. Sign-ups to adopt a day(s) of prayer are going on NOW. Contact Susan Platt at 214-392-7545 or [email protected] to reserve your parish's day.  And please consider adopting a weekday to ensure complete coverage; you only need 24 volunteers to cover a day in prayer (2 per hour). Visit  prolifedallas.org/40days for more information.

Finally, you may have seen the note from our Chairman of the Board Roger Scott announcing that Kris Kramer has stepped down as Executive Director  (en español). We greatly appreciate her service, and ask for your prayers as we move forward in this time of transition. Thanks to the support of devoted friends of life like you, each of our ministries continue to work daily to save lives and change hearts. We are indebted to each of you for being a part of this critical effort.

May God's blessings be upon you and your family, as you help to strengthen our commitment to the sanctity of life.

David Carr
CPLC Director of Parish Coordination

P.S. A little more about the traditions of July 4th:  Often known as Independence Day, July 4th has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of July 4 celebrations goes back to the days of the American Revolution (1775-83). In June 1776, representatives of the 13 colonies then fighting in the revolutionary struggle weighed a resolution that would declare their independence from Great Britain. On July 2nd, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later its delegates adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. From 1776 until the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with typical festivities ranging from fireworks, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues.
