Playing It Smart
The Fourth of July is supposed to be a time for a lot of fun and celebrating the freedoms that we have in this country. This is just a reminder to have that fun, safely and wisely, and to offer a couple of tips:
Tip Number One: The Massachusetts State Police and local police Departments across Massachusetts will be conducting open driver screening checkpoints as well as hidden checkpoints, looking for unsafe or impaired drivers. That's a good thing, for all of us.
Tip Number Two: Just recently, a study was released of the 200 cities in America that have the Best and Worst drivers. Sorry to say this, folks, but would you care to guess where Boston came in? Last - as in 200th on a list of 200. The next worst? Worcester, coming in at Number 199.
In light of that, here's a plea (the kind that's made outside of court): Play it smart this Fourth of July - and every day of the year. Turn off the phone when you're in the car. Do NOT drive if you have consumed anything more than one 8-ounce alcoholic drink or one beer. Do NOT text while driving. Do NOT speed.
Think about it this way: The life you save may just be your own.
Happy Fourth.
