The Road Report - July 8, 2016
This week, we're skipping the formalities and jumping straight to the punch line - THE ROUNDABOUT IS OPEN! On time and on budget, the Roundabout at Socialville-Fosters Road and Innovation Way is open to traffic.
 
Crews put the finishing touches on the roundabout prior to opening.

A FEW IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER:
  • Cars entering the roundabout must always yield to traffic that is already circulating the roundabout.
  • If an emergency vehicle enters the roundabout, take the first available exit and move safely out of the way - do not stop while you are in the roundabout.

 
Signage and pavement markings are clearly indicated in the roundabout to help drivers with travel movements.

If you've been one of the first to drive through, you've probably noticed that this new double-lane roundabout has four spokes. The southern leg was built in anticipation of the extension of Innovation Way south from Socialville-Fosters Road to Duke Boulevard (construction to occur in 2017). 

Roundabouts are recognized for increasing safety by reducing potential conflict points and improving travel delays by eliminating traffic signals.

  • Clearing for the Irwin-Simpson Road widening
    There will be lane restrictions this  week and next on I-71 as part of the  Socialville-Fosters Road improvement   work. Various lane closures on I-71 at the Socialville-Fosters bridge will occur nightly between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, through Friday July 15. The closures will not occur during the weekend.
