Annual Community Art Show: The Best Local Art of 2016
The Washington County Arts Council, Inc. invites local artists working in any medium to submit their best new works for WCAC's "Annual Community Art Show: The Best Local Art of 2016." The juried community art exhibit will run from December 2, 2016 through January 3, 2017 with an opening reception on Friday, December 2 from 5pm to 7pm.
Artists are encouraged to submit up to three entries. No works previously shown at WCAC will be considered. Images must be submitted in a .jpg format and files should be labeled: "Last Name_First Name_Title of Work."
Include full name, address, telephone and email address.

Every year Howard's Art and Frames raises money for Guiding Eyes for the Blind. Howard's ask artists to donate their time to create 5"x7" artwork. Starting July 11, 2016 Howard's will begin handing out 5"x7" art-boards for a $1 donation per board to artists that are wanting to participate. The boards are due back in Sept. 17th. They will then be framed by Howard's and hung in a silent auction. All Proceeds go towards Guiding Eyes for the Blind.

U.S. Navy Commodores to perform July 8 at HCC
The Hagerstown Community College Alumni Association will host the U.S. Navy Commodores as part of its annual
Red, White and Blue Summer Concert Series, on Friday, July 8, at 6:15 p.m., in HCC's Alumni Amphitheater.
The U.S. Navy Commodores feature 18 of the Navy's premier jazz and big band musicians playing under the direction of Chief Musician Robert Holmes.
this concert is free and open to the public. Concessions will be available for purchase. Please note that no outside food is permitted on the amphitheater grounds and concerts are subject to change by the U.S. Military.

The INDOMITABLE!
The Potomac Playmakers are THRILLED to have been asked by area playwright Harriet Lawrence to present a staged reading of her new play, "The INDOMITABLE!" "The Indomitable" tells the story of Dr. Raymond Damadian, inventor of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine. The MRI is a revolutionary medical tool in detecting and treating any number of physical ailments, including cancer, and the story of its invention is a compelling tale of creation, loss, and salvation. This event is FREE and open to the public (although donations are gratefully accepted!) Performers will read from the script, which remains a work in progress. Following the staged reading, the audience will be encouraged to provide feedback to the playwright in order to help her craft the final script. This is a unique opportunity to participate in the playwright's creative process, and have a direct impact on the creation of a new play!

A current exhibit, "The Great Fair," takes visitors back in time when the fair was a staple of community life. A display of documents, photographs and artifacts of this great local tradition continues throughout the summer months until August 31 and will be open the day of the lecture.
The exhibit will also be open during regular hours of the Miller House Museum, Wednesday through Saturday, from 1 to 4:00 p.m. It is recommended that visitors call 301-797-8782 to arrange tours. BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport
Call for Art
Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Marshall Airport) is currently constructing the D/E Connector and Security Checkpoint. This project creates a secure side connection between Concourse D and Concourse E, allows international arrivals at gates D1-D3, and creates a new Security Screening Checkpoint for all Concourses D and E passengers. With the large passenger traffic that will utilize the new facility, BWI Marshall Airport recognizes the opportunity to showcase the region's talented art community with a gallery space along the connector. BWI Marshall Airport invites all artists (ages 18 and older) residing in the State of Maryland or the District of Columbia to submit up to three digital images of artwork that can be reproduced and printed on large-scale fabric panels to be displayed within the D/E Connector for one of four six-month exhibits.

Potomac Playmakers 2016 Annual Membership Meeting

Attention Playmakers, family, friends, and community supporters! The Potomac Playmakers' Annual Membership meeting will be held on July 24, 2016 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Washington County Arts Council, located at 34. S. Potomac Street, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740. Annual dues of $20 will be collected at the meeting; payment of dues will entitle members in good standing to vote on the pending business on the agenda, which includes the election of some of the Board members and Officers! The meeting will also be a time to celebrate the continued success of The Potomac Playmakers, and will serve as the launch of the 90th Anniversary Season! The Potomac Playmakers, founded in 1926, is one of the country's longest active community theatre organizations. The Potomac River Artists' Guild is again sharing their art with the public at an exhibit in the Morgan County Arts Council "Ice House" Gallery in Berkeley Springs, WV. The display will be original wall paintings using many subject matters and techniques encompassing wildlife, still life, landscapes, impressionism, abstracts, and so on. The art will be in several mediums such as watercolor, acrylic, oil, pastel, and mixed.
The Show will run from July 29 to September 9, 2016. Art lovers are invited to meet the artists at a public reception on Friday, July 29 at 7:30 pm in the Ice House gallery.
The Potomac River Artists' Guild is a diverse group consisting of nearly 20 members from the Eastern Panhandle region. The artists range from degreed to self-taught and the Guild includes award-winners and members of regional, state and national art organizations.

ENTER BEST OF THE WEST THROUGH CaFÉ ONLINE ENTRY SYSTEM
Artists wishing to compete in the Best of the West: Three Dimensional Art of Western Maryland may now enter their pieces through the CaFÉ online entry system at callforentry.org. There is a $20 entry fee for the first entry and a $10 fee for each additional entry. The deadline for entries is July 30, 2016. The exhibition will open in Cumberland on October 14, 2016.

A partnership between the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, Gettysburg College, and Mercersburg Academy, this retrospective exhibition celebrates the life and prolific career of regional, and visitor favorite, artist William Clutz (b. 1933). The exhibition, which includes works drawn from the collections of all three institutions, traces Clutz's artistic interests and stylistic development from his youth in Mercersburg, PA through his academic training at the University of Iowa, to his mature years as a professional artist in New York City.

The Individual Artist Awards are grants awarded to practicing Maryland artists through an anonymous, competitive application process to encourage and sustain their pursuit of artistic excellence. Categories offered for the 2017 Awards are:
- Classical Music: Composition
- Classical Music: Solo Performance
- Dance: Choreography
- Dance: Solo Performance
- Poetry
- Visual Arts: Sculpture
- World Music: Composition
- World Music: Solo Performance
All applications must be submitted online. The Maryland State Arts Council and Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation have scheduled several webinars to assist artists with the application process. Applicants can access the guidelines, application, webinar registration links, and other application assistance resources by clicking the "Maryland" tab HERE on Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation's website. The deadline for 2017 applications is 4:30 PM on Friday, July 22, 2016. Questions about Fellowships?
