Please be advised of the following information:

Several Harnett County residents have reported a man claiming to be from the water department and working out of Raleigh leaving a valve in their mailbox along with a message that he will come by later to test their water. When the man arrives, he reportedly displays a badge with a serial number. When people let him in to test their water, the man reportedly asks personal questions like whether residents live alone or have children.

If someone comes by your home fitting this description, you should call the police. Harnett County Public Utilities employees will never enter residents' homes. When testing water, they use the meter or an outdoor spigot.

If you have any questions, contact Harnett County Public Utilities at (910) 893-7575.
